Valentine “Val” Urlacher, 87, of Billings, MT passed away December 31, 2013 from complications of Parkinson’s disease.
A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at St. Pius X Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Valentine was born January 23, 1926 near Dickinson, ND. He was the son of Wilhelm and Anna Mary (Walter) Urlacher.
Valentine served in the army the from 1945 to 1947, the end of WWII. He married Verena Krank June 14, 1949. She preceded him in death October 4, 1978. Val married Kathryn Kilwein on June 2, 1979.
In addition to his wife, Verena, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leo Urlacher, and his grandson Michael Matsumoto.
Valentine is survived by Kathryn Urlacher; six siblings: Sally Dolechek, Frank (Emma) Urlacher, Florian Urlacher, Leona (Andy) Roller, Edwin (Arlene) Urlacher, Gena (Gene) Peterman; and his four children: Jim (Debbie) Urlacher of Billings, MT, Jerry Urlacher (Kevin Riddle) of Salt Lake City, UT, Mary Clare (Roger) Matsumoto of Newark, DE, and Lucy (Chris Vitt) Urlacher of Columbia, MO. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, six grandchildren (Teresa, David, Steven, Brett, Timothy, and Jamie), and five great-grandchildren.
He was born and raised in North Dakota, moving to Montana in 1963. Being a farmer, he was very handy at fixing and repairing everything. He retired from Yellowstone County Implement, a John Deere dealer. In his retirement he built wooden toys, did wood carving, recycled cardboard, kept a tidy yard, and always had a productive garden. Val loved to play cards, especially cribbage. He was a hard worker, friendly to everyone, and always had a pleasant temperament.
