Robert O’Sullivan

Robert O’Sullivan, 91, died on November 10, 2012, with his wife, Dorothe, of 62 years beside him.

Bob was born on June 13, 1921, the third of six children born to an Irish immigrant and his Swedish bride. Bob’s father died of miner’s consumption when Bob was 18. From that day forward, Bob worked to support his mother and his younger siblings. He attended Judge Memorial High School in Salt Lake City, where the kindness that the priests showed to Bob instilled in him a deep and abiding faith in the Catholic Church.

Bob met his bride and soul mate, Dorothe Cooper, on a blind date to a St. Patrick’s Day dance. They married in 1950. Bob worked at General Electric Supply Company for 33 years. After he retired, Bob got bored and went back to work for Crescent Electric and Wesco Supply – driving all over the state to make sales. In his 80’s, he held his last and favorite job, which was working at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Bob was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, and was active in the Elks, the Exchange Club, and the Golden K Kiwanis.

Bob and Dorothe loved to travel. They particularly enjoyed going to a family cabin near Fairfield, Idaho, where they fished, hiked, and looked for arrowheads. Bob and Dorothe were fortunate to have visited Bob’s ancestral home in Ardgroom, Ireland, for three family reunions. Bob and Dorothe also traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Bob and Dorothe were devoted participants in St. Vincent’s Supervised Exercise Program, which they attended three times a week from 1989 until Bob died. There, they found exercise, companionship, and great friends. Bob and Dorothe cherished the wonderful times they had together with their fellow exercise partners, known as “The Wild Bunch.”

Bob is survived by his wife Dorothe, his son Tom, his daughter Kelly (Jimmy Weg) and two granddaughters: Cambryn (Bart Coulter) and Marisa. He is also survived by his brother Armond and his sister Dorothy Rino and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 1pm Friday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary with visitation prior to the service. Reception to follow at St. Thomas Parish. The family suggests memorials to Judge Memorial Catholic High School, 650 S. 1100 E., Salt Lake City, Utah 84102-3902.
