Marvin Solberg Obituary

It is with both deep sorrow and the hope of heaven that we mourn the loss of Marvin Magnus Solberg, who peacefully passed away in Billings, Montana, on Feb. 24, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on April 17, 1937, in Billings, to Magnus Jakob and Iva Elizabeth (Brekke) Solberg. He was our sweet dad, loving grandpa and dedicated friend. He cherished his grandchildren. His face lit up each time they walked through the door. He was always there to support them in their activities. He never missed a game, concert, event or celebration. He and Mom would sometimes attend four games in one day!

It is always difficult to say goodbye to someone we love and cherish. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Marvin was a native of Billings. He graduated from Billings Senior High in 1955.

Marvin started his work career as a 17 year old at Goodies Spud Chip Company, which produced potato chips right here in Billings. The company was sold out to Red Seal, then to Barrel of Fun. His final chip job was with Clover Club. He then went on to be a salesman with Proctor and Gamble. He was able to make a lot of coffee/beer buddies during his life.

Dad loved to take care of his yard, making it the envy of the block. He also took great pride in his flowers, which he tended to daily!!

In retirement, Dad liked to brew his own beer and later became quite skilled in winemaking. He entered many of his bottles at the fair and won several blue ribbons. He loved to share his homemade wine!

When Mom and Dad were in good health, they loved to go to Laughlin, Nevada for little getaways!

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Magnus and Iva Solberg; his wife, Benita (Steel) Solberg in 2021; infant daughter, Karen Marie; brother Ron Solberg; and his sisters-in-law, Diane Crosbie and Lois Castonguay. He is survived by his children, Teresa Seward (Randy), Joanna Church (Todd) and Mike Solberg (Tanya), all of Billings; and his grandchildren, Isaac, Caryn, Kaitlyn, Marcus, Aaron and Emma. He is also survived by his siblings, Jack Solberg (Shirley) and Carol Mitzman (Bud); and brother-in-law Ben Steel; along with many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave., in Billings. Family and friends may come celebrate his life. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
