Dennis Molm Obituary

Dennis Herbert Molm passed away peacefully on Thursday the 27th of April, 2023. His loving wife, Nora, was by his side holding his hand. Born on the 5th of May, 1950, in Dickinson, ND, to Herbert and Clara Molm, Dennis was the fifth of seven children. He graduated in 1968 from Belfield High School and remained a student of life, always. His sharp wit and sense of humor is something he will be remembered for. He always joked that he could not remember if he was two years in the third grade or three years in the second grade.

Dennis met his future wife, Nora Koch, in 1968. They married in 1972 and they welcomed their first son, Jasen. Angela followed along in 1976, while Kevin was a little late to the party, arriving in 1985. Initially, Dennis and Nora settled in the small town of Hysham, MT, where Dennis worked as an apiarist. In 1976, Dennis and Nora moved to Billings, where Dennis started working for the city and the sugar refinery before settling down at Boise Cascade in the windows and doors building section. Dennis later worked for School District 2 as a custodian before retiring in 2015. Dennis’s real passion, and “second job” was working in the antique business. D’Molms Antiques quickly grew into a respected business throughout the region. Dennis was often asked for advice on how to repair and refinish antique furniture. His knowledge seemed never-ending, often figuring out what, and how, an obscure antique tool was used, or the history behind a brand of furniture. He had the ability to see the diamond in the rough. He took pride in his craftsmanship and was not afraid of hard work. Dennis enjoyed time reading or traveling in his beloved state of Montana, attending all the grandkids’ events, answering Jeopardy questions, telling jokes and tinkering in the garage.

Preceding Dennis, and welcoming him to his eternal home, are his parents, Herb and Clara Molm; his sisters, Dorthy Hardy and Marianne Lee; his brothers, Ellis Molm and John Molm.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nora Molm; his children, Jasen (Kristi) Molm, Angela (Gary) McSweyn and Kevin (Rachel) Molm; and seven grandchildren, Tyler, Logan, Abigail, Andrew, Nathan, Owen and Gretta; and one great-grandchild, Malcolm. He leaves behind two siblings, Howard (Connie) Molm and Tom (Patty) Molm; multiple nieces and nephews; and countless “adopted” grandchildren.

Dennis was always the heart of the party, leading everybody in games, jokes and life’s discussions. His heart was large and always expanding. No one was ever turned away from family celebrations, because he considered everyone as part of his family.

Dennis had great faith, remaining a staunch servant of God to the end. He loved his Church and was a devoted parishioner of Little Flower / Mary Queen of Peace.

Rosary, viewing and memory sharing will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Funeral Mass will be at 12 noon on Friday, May 5, at Mary Queen of Peace Church (formerly “Little Flower”), 3411 Third Ave. S., with a luncheon to follow.

Graveside interment of ashes will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at Calvary Cemetery, 717 18th St. West.

For those who are unable to participate in these celebrations of Dennis’ life, you can honor his memory by smiling, offering a prayer, and telling someone your favorite “dad joke.”

“Now my curtain has been drawn

But do not weep for me

For my waters have turned to wine

And my heart can go

Where my heart does belong

I am going home”
