Thomas Dewayne Moffet, an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, following complications from a fall that resulted in a broken hip. Though his family was encouraged by signs of recovery, his condition gradually declined. We are thankful that his suffering is over but heartbroken to let him go.
Tom was born on October 18, 1937, in Billings, Montana, to Orville and Irene Moffet. One of 8 children and the first of two sons, he graduated from Billings Central Catholic High School in 1955. In 1956, he met the love of his life, Sheri Penners, beginning a lifelong partnership that lasted nearly seven decades.
Tom began his career in the construction industry at Western Builders Supply and later with Madden Construction Supply. He was the treasurer of the Billings Builders Exchange for 26 years. In April 1976, he and Marv Ostrum founded MaCon Construction Supply. Following his partner's passing, Tom continued building the company into a successful regional business serving the construction industry with 7 locations throughout Montana and Spokane, Washington; as well as a second business, Conmas Construction Supply with 2 locations in Idaho. With the dedication of many valued employees - including his son Blake and grandson Preston - MaCon recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary!
A dedicated industry leader, Tom was an active member of ACDI, (Associated Contractors and Distributors International), beginning in 1984, and served as treasurer for 5 years. He and Sheri attended meetings and events across the country and internationally, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Outside of work, Tom had a passion for automobiles, particularly sports cars and convertibles. Over the years he collected over 16 sports cars, purchasing his final one just days before his untimely fall. He and Sheri were active members of the Absaroka Region Porsche Club and the Yellowstone Valley Mustang Club. They also cherished their time in Las Vegas where they spent many winter months at the Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort in their 46-foot motorhome.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sheri; his children, Jodee (Mike) Patrick, Blake (Lindsey Gannett) Moffet; his daughter-in-law, Darcy Moffet; his sisters, Karen Derheim, Peggy (Carl) Gravogel, Jan (Doug) Mollet; and brother, Joe (Nancy) Moffet; and his beloved dog, Dollee. He was preceded in death by his son, Britt Moffet in 2018.
Tom took immense pride in his grandchildren, Brady (Katrina) Hoiness, Devan (Brittani) Hoiness, Preston (Stephanie) Moffet, Ariel Tokarski, April Moffet and Ashley Moffet. His legacy continues through his ten great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Hudson, Parker, Sutton, Brently, Kashton, Isaiah, Alana, Serenity and Austin. He also held a special place in his heart for Lindsey’s children, Stella, Auggie, and Oren Bouchard. Withloving appreciation, we thank Mike's daughter, Rachel and son-in-law Chris McMorris, for their continued prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support of Tom.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Advanced Care Hospital of Montana, our dedicated caregivers at Synergy Home Care, and the compassionate doctors and nurses of 5 Fortin at Intermountain Health at St. Vincent Hospital. Their kindness, professionalism and exceptional care brought comfort and support to Tom and our family during a difficult time.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, at Faith Chapel, 517 Shiloh Road, Billings Montana while enjoying Tom’s favorite sweet treats. To honor Tom, please drive your favorite car to the celebration.
We are also deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support we have received from family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tom’s memory to the MSU-Billings City College Automotive Program Attn: MSU-B Foundation, 1500 University Drive, Billings, MT 59102 or to a charity of your choice.
