Stan J. Waddell, 83 of Billings, died at his daughter's home on October 4, 2011 under the care of his family and support of Rocky Mountain Hospice. Stan was born in Ogden, UT on October 26, 1928, the only child of Albert and Zelda Waddell.

Stan grew up in Billings and attended school there. In the summers he helped his uncle and aunt, Bud and Donna Nielsen and his cousin Ted, on their farm in Clarks Fork, Wyo. He graduated from high school in Reed Point. While in school at both Senior High and in Reed Point, Stan was a member of the basketball team.

Following high school, Stan enlisted in the United States Army. He served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He was later honorably discharged. Upon his return from the military, Stan married Dorothy Ann Bryson of Ballantine on April 9, 1955. From this union, three beautiful children were born. The family suffered great loss following the death of Stan and Dorothy's only son, Jimmy in 1977.

Stan was employed by the City of Billings on the Street Maintenance Department for nearly 30 years, retiring as Foreman in 1980. He started his own business called Black Carpet Asphalt, and perused this venture for many years, even after retirement.

During his life, Stan was an avid fisherman and loved his boat. He enjoyed taking his children to their place at Hebgen Lake, where they would fish, ski and enjoy the water. He was a member of the Lion's Club. In later years, he would enjoy his greenhouse and loved to grow beautiful flowers and vegetables, winning numerous ribbons at MontanaFair. He was also active on a bowling league.

Stan is preceded in death by his parents; son Jimmy; his beloved wife of 55 years, Dorothy, who passed away on January 14, 2010. He is survived by his daughters Kathy (Norm) Sindelar of Seeley Lake, MT and Bobbi (Richard) Marble; his grandchildren Danielle, Tyler, Andrew (Sedley) and Lauren (Trevor Zuroff); great-grandchildren, Makilah, Kalayah, Gavin, Lyndin, and Roman; and Dorothy's nephew Rob Bryson.

The casket will be open for visitation on Thursday, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Michelotti-Sawyers. A private burial will take place at Mountview Cemetery. A Memorial Celebration of Stan's Life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 8, at Rocky Mountain Community Church in Billings.

Memorials may be made to Peacemaker Ministries, 2590 Holman Ave. Billings, MT 59102 or Rocky Mountain Hospice.
