Sheryl Kay Volbrecht, 83, of Richey, Montana, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Billings Clinic on October 10th, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22nd, at the Richey Senior Center in Richey, Montana. All who knew and loved Sheryl are welcome to attend.

Sheryl was born on August 7th, 1942, in Glendive, Montana, the daughter of Ralph and Myrtle (Lee) Wienke. She was raised in Richey, where she built the foundation of a life centered around family, hard work, and deep community roots. After graduating from Richey High School with the Class of 1960, she married the love of her life, Butch Volbrecht, on September 10th, 1966 – beginning a lifelong partnership that grew into a beautiful family and a meaningful life.

Sheryl’s early years took her to Glendive and Wolf Point, where she worked as a waitress, always bringing warmth and kindness to every interaction. But it was back in Richey where she truly found her place – supporting Butch on the family farm and ranch. She later worked at Big Sky Hardware, a job she genuinely enjoyed. Together, she and Butch owned and ran the Stockman Bar for five years. Over the years, Sheryl wore many hats: substitute cook at Richey High School, a friendly face at the Farmers Kitchen, and Museum Curator at the Richey Historical Museum from 1992 to 1997. Wherever she was, Sheryl made people feel welcome.

Sheryl had a heart that radiated love. Her family was her greatest joy – she cheered the loudest at every milestone and stood by them through every season. She shared a special bond with her sisters, the “Wienke girls,” who were known far and wide for their adventurous spirits. Sheryl didn’t care much for shopping on their trips, but she always found a cozy bench where she could sit, and people watch.

In retirement, Sheryl was blessed with the opportunity to travel. She went to Port Charlotte, Florida, and Apache Junction, Arizona, with her sisters and cousins. She especially enjoyed line dancing and listening to great music. One of her favorite places she was able to see was New Orleans, Louisiana, and experience Mardi Gras. She also loved Fort Peck Lake and spent a lot of weekends there.

Sheryl looked forward to her daily coffee visits with her two close friends, Bette Brown and Gail Miller. She treasured her weekly Sunday coffee visits with her daughter-in-law, Lissa, and granddaughters, Megan and Ellie, where she delighted in spending time with them and watching her great-grandsons, Brekyn and Oliver, grow.

Our hearts are broken, but we find peace knowing she is reunited with those she loved and that we will see her again someday.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Butch Volbrecht; son, Clint Volbrecht; and sisters, Judy Shuman and Elaine Gary.

She is survived by her son, Cole Volbrecht of Billings her daughter Kelly (Doug) Kunick of Glendive, Daughter-in-Law Lissa Volbrecht of Richey; four granddaughters Megan (Tye) Gilliland, Ellie (Kramer) Dunham, Caitlin (Trevor) Wood, McKenna Volbrecht and fiance’ Payden Flores; great-grandsons, Brekyn and Oliver; sisters Della (Bruce) Kenny, Diana Jensen, Peggy Shipp and numerous nieces and nephews.

Condolences can be sent to PO Box 43, Richey, Montana 59259 or please send a memorial to the Richey Senior Center or Richey Historical Museum
