Shawn Wickhorst 2/21/1964 - 3/17/2025
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and cowboy, went to walk with Jesus after a long battle with brain cancer. Shawn was born on February 21, 1964 to parents Ellen and David Wickhorst. As a child he spent his time between the family ranch, in Teigen, MT and at his home in Billings. Shawn’s love for horses began young when his grandpa bought his pony Tootsie that he and his brother Dave would teach to pull a cart at the ranch. He spent summers at the ranch doing all aspects of ranch life. Shawn graduated from West High in 1982, and then went on to college at Montana State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. After college, Shawn and Dave started a business building houses, Wickhorst brothers construction, which would later become KW Signature Homes, which was celebrated in the Billings Parade of homes for several years!
In 1994, Shawn met the love of his life Juliet Wickhorst, they married on march 6, 1996 in Las Vegas Nevada. When they married, daughter Shelby Koch was four years old, and in the coming years they would welcome two more children - son Wyatt (1997) and daughter Sophia (1999). Shawn was a loving father who always made sure his family flourished in their hobbies, jobs, and education. Shawn loved reminiscing with his children about stories from “back in the good old days”.
In 2017, after a successful career of home building, Shawn and Julie began a new adventure together purchasing Rand's Custom Hats in Billings, Montana. Only months into this new adventure Shawn was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer. For the last 7 ½ years Shawn courageously fought the battle, after multiple brain surgeries, trial drugs, chemo and radiation his warrior spirit of “Never give up” shined through.
Shawn was a true gentleman, a smart businessman and loving father and husband. Friends note that although Shawn didn’t say much, he had a voice of authority and his words carried weight. He is greatly missed and he leaves a lasting legacy.
He is survived by his loving wife Juliet, and children Shelby Koch,(Jesse Bills), Wyatt Wickhorst, and Sophia Del Toro (Nicolas), and granddaughter Aubrey Edwards. Father, David Wickhorst, Brother David Wickhorst, (Christy), Aunt Patricia McNamee (Pete) and many other loved ones.
Shawn is preceded in death by his grandparents Bard and Ann Teigen, mother Ellen Wickhorst, infant brother Mark Wickhorst, and uncle Bard Teigen.
The family would like to thank Frontier Cancer Center, Dr. Dave Christianson, and the caring nurses that helped on this journey.
Burial has taken place at a private family ceremony in Billings, but a celebration of life will take place on March 28th at 10:00 am, at Faith Evangelical Church 3145 Sweetwater Dr, Billings Mt 59102.
