Robert “Bob” Lee Dunker was born July 14, 1941, in Julesburg, Colorado to Paul Henry Dunker and Sarah Marie Thompson. Bob attended school in Julesburg and Sedgwick, Colorado. He joined the U.S. Navy on January 23, 1959, and was discharged on January 22nd, 1965. While in the military he earned his high school GED certificate. Robert was married to Evangeline Cooper and had two children from the marriage, Robert Jr. and Dawn Marie. Robert and Evangeline later divorced. Upon moving to Montana, he met Edna Frank Robertson. They were married and became a blended family. Bob worked as a semi-truck driver for many years. Eventually he and a neighbor, Lester Folvag decided to start a garbage hauling company. D & F Sanitation Services. After a few years Bob and Edna bought out the partnership and were now the sole owners of the business. Eventually the business was sold. Bob decided after a short while that he didn’t like retirement, and he came home one day and said, “Guess what we bought the lube today”. And back to work he went for the next thirty years until he sold the company to his son Rod. During these years Bob was coach for the Lockwood Little League. He went on to become League President. Bob was instrumental in building the senior league field. He then became the District Administrator of Eastern Montana. For several years Bob also served on the Lockwood Fire Department Board, the Metra Park Fair Board, and the Little Horn State Bank Board, and the Montana Hall & Wall of Fame. Bob is a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. He loved horses, motorcycles, collecting cars and living in Emerald Hills. He is survived by his wife Edna, and his children Robert JR. (Christina) Dunker, Dawn (Deron) Birch of Fergus Falls, MN, stepchildren, Nikki (Alan) Downer, Diane (Mark) Jaskot of Makilteo, WA; sons Scott Dunker, Rodney (Debbee)Dunker of Billings, MT; and twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; his brother William Dunker, sisters, Betty Wyett and Bonnie Hawks, and several nephews. Preceding him in death is his son, Douglas Lynn Dunker, daughter in law; Angel Dunker; his grandson, Paul William Dunker, his parents, Paul and Sarah Dunker; brother, Bernard Dunker; daughter in law, Barb Dunker, and granddaughter, Kristal Cooper. Funeral services were held at 11 AM Tuesday, February 17th, 2026, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens and a luncheon to follow back at the church. Memorials may be made to the Mount Olive Lutheran Church memorial fund.
