Norman L. Costin, 84, of Billings, Montana, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Norm was born on March 19, 1941, in Glasgow, Montana, and graduated from Havre High School in 1959. That same year, he joined the United States Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1966. Norm met the love of his life, Janet J. Hollingsworth, in Havre. The two were married on October 20, 1961, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, beginning a love story that would span more than six decades. Janet passed away on July 6, 2025, just three months shy of their 65th wedding anniversary. While Norm had been dealing with health issues, the loss of his beloved wife left him with a broken heart. He often said he wouldn’t be far behind her, and that they would soon be together again. He was right. Norm passed away only seven short months after Janet, and we find comfort in believing they are reunited once more. Norm and Janet built a life centered on family, laughter, and making memories. Their children grew up with camping trips in the Bear Paw Mountains, fishing at nearby lakes, and big family gatherings. In 1984, they moved their family to Billings.
Norm took pride in keeping his cars, boats, bikes and yard pristine. The family would always joke about a leaf on the lawn or making sure the corvette was polished to perfection – if there was a cloud in the sky, you would not see the vet out of the garage. In later years, Norm and Janet found joy in the simple pleasures of life: scenic drives on their Harley motorcycle, peaceful time at their cabin at Fort Peck, and—when the weather was clear—taking their Corvette out for a spin. Norm and Janet were the kind of people who made a house feel like home. Playing games, sharing stories, and creating memories that will reside in the hearts of family members long after their passing. Norm found joy in all things musical. He played the guitar, keyboard, and most notably, the accordion—earning him the affectionate nickname “Stormin’ Norman.” He will be lovingly remembered for playing “Happy Birthday,” teaching his grandchildren how to play “Chopsticks,” and passing along his love for the song “Rockin’ Robin". Norman is survived by his children, Tammy Adkins (Ron) and Kevin Costin (Jade); his sister, Betty Brinkman (Ron); his grandchildren, Lindsay Gran (Misty), Jerry Gran Jr. (Paige), Mckenna Costin, Kaiden Costin, and Hunter Buck (Colin) and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Tony L. Costin, his parents, Louis and Signe Costin, his siblings Theron Costin and Raymond Costin.
A family gathering will take place later this spring to celebrate both Norman and Janet.
