Gail Anderson, of Billings, MT, and formerly of Bellevue, WA and Watervliet, NY, passed away peacefully on April 12th, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was 86 years old.
Gail is survived by her husband of 60 years, Neal Anderson; daughter Kirsten Miller, her husband Scott and granddaughter Elie; daughter Jennifer Eliason, her husband Stan and grandsons Mitch (Angie and great grandson Dominic), Colton, Nick, and Hunter. She also leaves sister Linda Neeb (daughters Jamie and Kara). She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Bill Neeb (sons Scott and Chris), and her parents.
Gail grew up in Watervliet, NY. After high school she moved to San Franciso, CA with a friend where she took a job as a secretary at the Bank of California. There, she would meet the love of her life, Neal Anderson. They were married in San Francisco in 1966 and later moved to Seattle, Washington where Neal had grown up. They raised their two daughters there. Gail worked at Hazelwood Elementary for 20 years in the office and library. She loved gardening and spending time at the family cabin on Hood Canal. Gail was active in St. Margaret’s Episcopal church. She and Neal were part of a monthly pinochle group and were active with many friends. She also loved health and exercise and was an avid jogger. After retirement, Neal and Gail moved to Billings, MT in 2002 to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was the most adoring grandmother, always defending her grandchildren. She fixed Sunday dinners for the whole family for many years and never missed a grandchild’s sporting/music event. She continued her love of gardening, becoming a Master Gardener and member of Yellowstone County Master Gardeners Association. She was also a dog lover and cherished all the family dogs and granddogs over the years. Gail’s primary focus was always her family.
A private family celebration of her life will happen over the summer when all her grandkids can be present as being a grandma was her most cherished role. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The family would like to say a special thank you to St. John’s United Hospice for their outstanding care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to one of the following charities in Gail’s name, Friendship House of Billings, Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter, or St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Rest in peace, our dear grandma.
