Lyle H. Hansen

Lyle Hansen, age 87 of Billings, passed away surrounded by family in his home on April 16, 2026. He was born to Lyla (Myhre) and Harvey Hansen in Hayes Township, Minnesota on June 16, 1938, and grew up there with his brothers, Lyndon and Glenn.

The call of the wild west was irresistible to Lyle, so he raised his family in the Billings area while working as a landman in the oil and gas industry.

In his retirement years, he was able to indulge in his true passions of keeping horses and dogs and participated in field trials with them all over North America.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Lyla and Harvey; nephew, Ken; stepson, Tom Ferguson; grandsons, Chantz Gillman and Jeremy McKellup; as well as his former wife, Diane Beck.

He is survived by his wife, Abby Ferguson; children, Kyle Hansen, Kent (Emilie) Hansen, Kelley Sedillo; stepchildren, Kelli (Alan) Hilgendorf, John (Diana) Ferguson, Paul (Cindy) Ferguson; grandchildren, Addie “Twiggy,” Iggy “Moonpie,” Jessica Hilgendorf, Sarah Hilgendorf; brothers, Glenn (Lisa) Hansen, Lyndon (Cheryl) Hansen; nieces and nephews, Kerry and Mark, Breeta Brown and Kerstin Hansen.

Interment with Navy Honors will be at 1:00pm Monday May 11 at Yellowstone National Cemetery, Laurel.

Lyle’s family is thankful that he is finally at peace, riding horses and hunting behind his dogs.
