Lorraine Liebl, former resident of Stanley, N.D., passed away on Oct. 20, 2016, at Edgewood Vista in Billings. She was 96 years old. She had been a resident of Edgewood Vista since fall of 2013. Prior to that time, she had lived in Stanley since 1955.
Lorraine was born on Aug. 19, 1920, on a farm southeast of Bowbells, N.D., in Bowbells Township. Her parents were Rachel E. Williams and Hans G. Hansen. She was raised on the farm, where she learned vital lessons of responsibility and independence. At the age of 13, she began working as a mother's helper during the harvest seasons, and the work ethic taught by her parents remained with her throughout her life.
On June 25, 1939, she married Melvin O. Stahlberg from Kenmare, N.D. They became the parents of eight children. They were later divorced.
She worked for Stanley Community Hospital from 1957 to 1994 when she retired. She loved her work as a nurse's aide and was genuinely proud of her accomplishments.
She married Alfred Liebl in 1963.
She was preceded in death by her stepson, Buddy Liebl; two grandchildren, Michael Kinnoin and Jennifer Anne Weiss; former husband, Melvin Stahlberg; husband Alfred Liebl; sweet companion Leo Schmidt; daughter-in-law Paula Stahlberg and her nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her eight children, Dennis Stahlberg, Springfield, Ill.; Diane Kinnoin (Meyer), Stanley, N.D.; Betty McDonald, Helena; Jean Weiss (John), Orem, Utah; Richard Stahlberg (Deborah), Grand Forks, N.D.; Vicki Kelly (Connal), Billings; Cynthia Lidstrom (Lance), Worden; Julie Trulson (Roger), Fargo, N.D.; two stepchildren, Mary Johnson, Bismarck, N.D.; and Bob Liebl (Joan), Bismarck; 28 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the American Lutheran Church in Stanley, N.D. Interment will be in the Stanley City Cemetery.
