Obituary

Lois Rae Johnson Principe, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Father's Day, at Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana. She was 89 years old.

Lois was born on December 21, 1936, in Havre, Montana, to Woodrow "Woody" Johnson and Willidean Stetzel Johnson. She attended Minot Business College in Minot, North Dakota, where she earned a two-year degree.

Lois devoted her life to her family as a homemaker and loving mother. She took immense pride in raising her six boys and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and enough food to feed a house full of growing sons. Her home was filled with faith, laughter, good food, and the joyful chaos that comes with raising six boys.

A woman of deep Christian faith, Lois loved the Lord and attended First Baptist Church regularly. She believed faith was important and did her best to make sure her boys were in church whenever she could get them rounded up and headed out the door.

Known affectionately as "Grandma P," Lois found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren and family. She loved cooking and spent years making sure there was always enough food on the table for her six growing boys. She remained remarkably active and fit throughout her 40s and 50s and was an avid Denver Broncos fan, although they occasionally became "the Donkeys" in her eyes. Later in life, Lois and her beloved husband, Salvatore, enjoyed multiple trips to Hawaii and fell in love with the islands. Those trips became treasured adventures and some of their favorite memories together.

Lois was tough, fiercely loving, and brutally honest. She kept her boys in line and wasn't afraid to throw a shoe if she couldn't get to them fast enough, a family memory that still brings smiles to those who knew and loved her.

For 68 years, Lois and Salvatore built a life together centered on faith, family, and unwavering devotion to one another. Their marriage was marked by enduring love, raising six sons, and creating a legacy that now spans multiple generations. Though she wore many hats throughout her life, Lois considered her greatest accomplishment to be her family.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow "Woody" Johnson and Willidean Stetzel Johnson, and by her son, Michael ("Mike") Principe.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Salvatore Principe Sr.; her sons, Salvatore Principe Jr. (Janelle), Danny Principe (Susan), Brian Principe, and David Principe (Lisa), all of Billings, Montana, and Paul Principe (Melanie) of Mobile, Alabama; her siblings, David Slavens and Karen Slavens, both of Minot, North Dakota; her 17 grandchildren, Zach, Kristin, Dustin, Salvatore III, Shannon, Erin, Lindsey, Alec, Alyssa, Jake, Phillip, Annalee, Carly, Steven, Shawn, Michelle, and Tayler; her 16 great-grandchildren, Averie, Allegra, Orion, Jordan, Lyandra, Jack, James, Harrison, Mason, Jackson, Hailey, Kolt, Sven, Zoe, Izzy, and Juniper; and her great-great-grandchild, Nevaeh.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Michelotti-Sawyers Funeral Home & Crematory, 1001 Alderson Avenue, Billings, Montana 59102. A short graveside service and procession will follow. Information regarding a family gathering at The Back Nine following the services will be announced as arrangements are finalized.

While her presence leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds peace in knowing she is home with the Lord she loved so dearly. To generations of family, she was simply "Grandma P," and she will be loved, missed, and remembered always.
