Linda Freitag passed away on March 3, 2026, from complications following a long battle with cancer.
Linda Mae Blumfield was born on April 30, 1950, to Dave Blumfield and Henrietta “Reca” Albertini Blumfield in Great Falls, MT. In 1952, the family moved to Havre, MT. She worked in her family’s grocery store, Dave’s Foods, during high school. Linda graduated from Havre High in 1968. In the fall of 1968, she enrolled in nursing training at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lewistown, MT, where she met a lifelong friend and partner in crime, Holly Spint. They enjoyed participating in drag racing for fun—though not in her 1970 Camaro! After completing her training, Linda moved with Holly to Great Falls, MT, to work at Deaconess Hospital. Their friend Mary Jo Gregory from Havre later joined them, and the three lived in Black Eagle. They shared many fun times together.
Linda met Mark Freitag, who was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls in early 1971. They married on October 23, 1971, and moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was then stationed. In 1973, they moved back to Havre briefly before settling in Mark’s hometown of West Point, IA. They bought a farm in Farmington, IA, and had three children. Linda spent several years as a leader and helper in her kids’ activities before returning to work at the hospital in Keosauqua, IA, and at Dr. Sparks’ office in Farmington.
Linda and the kids moved to Billings in 1989, where she was once again closer to Holly and Mary Jo. Linda worked for Deaconess/Billings Clinic, spending more than 20 years in dialysis before retiring to care for her parents. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, where she enjoyed volunteering. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and with her friends. Linda also loved to travel, particularly with Mary Jo and Cheryl, and she attended Women of Faith conferences every year she was able.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her godson, Kevin Bjornson; and by her aunts Emily McDonald, Emma Hildebrand, Ida Frediani, and Virginia Albertini; and her uncles Victor Albertini, Joseph Albertini, and Albert Albertini.
Linda is survived by her children Chad (Anya) Freitag, Amy (Jeff) Berve, and Ryan Freitag; her grandchildren Tasia Berve, Kyler (Kim) Berve, Phillip, Dyllan, and Nathan Freitag; and her great-granddaughters Ember Berve Fox, Rosalia, Rheya, and Ruth Berve, all of Billings. She is also survived by her brother David (Haidee) Blumfield, Jr.; her nephews Todd (Gloria) Blumfield and Shaun (Erica) Blumfield; her great-nieces Zoe and Kylee Blumfield, all of Los Angeles, CA; numerous cousins; Holly Spint-Jones; Mary Jo Gregory; and many other wonderful friends.
A special thanks to Morning Star Reflections and Stillwater Hospice. We greatly appreciate you.
