Lawrence (Larry) Vigesaa, age 88, of Billings, Montana, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on May 1, 2025.
Larry was born in Cooperstown, ND on January 8, 1937 to Lawrence and Connie Vigesaa. He grew up surrounded by the love and hard work of a large family. The values of faith, kindness, and love took root early in his life. He carried those values into every chapter.
Larry graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School in 1954. He attended the Agricultural College, now known as North Dakota State University (NDSU), and graduated with a degree in architectural engineering.
He met the love of his life, Delores, when they were both in high school. They were married in 1957 and in 1959 they moved to Great Falls, Montana. Together they shared 67 beautiful years of marriage. These years were marked by laughter, patience, adventure, and unwavering devotion. Together they raised three sons, Erik, Bryan, and Ben, who were his pride and joy.
A talented architect, Larry began his career in Great Falls, MT. After his children were born, the family moved to Billings where Larry started his own architecture firm in 1972. Over his career, he designed many beautiful homes, commercial buildings, and churches—one of which was Yellowstone Lutheran Brethren Church. Larry was a charter member of YLBC and served as an elder, bible study teacher, and musician.
A gifted tenor, Larry had a penchant for art and music. His voice filled churches and quiet evenings at home, always lifting spirits and pointing hearts toward Heaven. Larry was a part of the Great Falls and Billings Symphonic Choirs.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter throughout his life. From crisp autumn mornings in the wilderness of Montana to the peaceful plains of North Dakota, Larry found joy in hunting. Hunting was not only a pastime, but a tradition he shared with his sons and grandsons, creating memories that will live on for generations.
Above all, Larry was a man of deep, abiding faith. A devout Christian, he not only lived his beliefs but shared them generously, helping lead many to know the love of Christ. His kindness, quiet strength, and servant’s heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
During the last year of his life, Larry received loving care from the staff at St. John’s Langemo Cottage.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and one sister; his grandson, Taylor, and his son Bryan. Larry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Delores Vigesaa; children, Erik [Ruth] Vigesaa, Ben [Sue] Vigesaa, and [Jana] Vigesaa; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and all those who were blessed to call him a friend.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on June 7 at Yellowstone Lutheran Brethren Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Yellowstone Lutheran Brethren Church, CLB International Missions, hospice, or a charity of choice in honor of his lifelong commitment to faith and service.
Though he is no longer with us in body, the legacy of Larry’s love, faith, and song will echo in our hearts forever.
