Kayne James Cossitt unexpectedly became an angel on the early morning of July 12, 2024. He was 6 weeks old.
Kayne was born on May 31, 2024, in Billings, to Austin and Jordynn Cossitt. He was five weeks early and weighed 5.3 pounds. Within hours, he was alert and hiccupping, taking it all in. He was welcomed into the family by his beaming big sister who wouldn’t leave her mama’s side during delivery. The next morning, his big brother got to meet his new best friend and was surprised at how small he was and imagined the mischief they’d get in together. His daddy looked just as nervous cutting the cord as he did the first two times. The love we all felt for him was unmatched. As a family of five, he made sure we did things on his schedule, but that didn’t stop Sister and Brother from sneaking in as many kisses as they could when he finally fell asleep, often waking him up despite their mom’s protests. He made our family whole and filled our hearts with joy.
Kayne changed many lives and brought hope to each and every one of us. In his short time in our arms, he brought our family together, teaching us more than some do in an entire lifetime. Even in death, he continues mending broken relationships, and is showing us all how to live with the grace of God. We will forever feel the devastation his departure has created, and we will always wonder who he may have become. He was loved beyond measure.
He is survived by his parents, Austin and Jordynn Cossitt; his big brother, Kash, and his big sister, Kannyn; along with his grandparents, Jerry and Debbie (Oma) Cossitt of Shepherd, Christine (Nana) Stovall of Billings, and Bobby and Angela Pecora of Eureka. Along with many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him and many special counselors and friends that have become family.
Until we meet again, our sweet boy.
His service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 22, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. Following the service, we will lay him to rest in Red Lodge. All who would like to join are welcome to help celebrate the life of our precious boy.
A special thank you to the Lockwood first responders who helped us that fateful morning.
