Joseph “Joe” Richard Trottier, 65, of Billings, Montana, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
Joe was born on July 21, 1960, in Belcourt, North Dakota, to Alexander and Elizabeth Trottier. He was the eighth of ten children, growing up with a strong sense of family that he carried throughout his life.
Joe shared 45 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Michele, whom he married on May 17, 1980. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and unwavering support. He was a proud father to his sons, Joey and Tyler, who carry on his strength, values, and sense of humor.
His greatest joy in life was being “Papa” to Brooklyn and Brody. They were truly his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them—whether it was cheering them on, playing, or simply spending time together, those moments meant everything to him.
Joe dedicated 44 years of his life to Montana Sprinkler, where he became known to many as “Sprinkler Joe.” His work ethic, loyalty, and pride in his craft earned him the respect of coworkers and customers alike.
For nearly 18 years, Joe also coached Huntley Project Junior High basketball alongside his longtime friend, Frank Hollowell. Those years reflected his love for the game, his commitment to his community, and the impact he had on so many young athletes.
Joe never met a stranger. He had a way of making people feel welcome and valued from the moment they met him. His easygoing nature, genuine kindness, and steady presence made him a friend to all.
He is survived by his loving wife Michele; his sons Joey (Nicole) and Tyler; and his cherished grandchildren Brooklyn and Brody. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joe’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
A rosary will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 8, 2026, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Billings. Interment at Yellowstone Memorial Park and a luncheon at St. Bernard will follow the service.
