Joan Lou was born May 13, 1930, in St. Paul, MN to Marjory and Hub Haberman. She passed away on September 8, 2026.

Joan lived in a variety of towns in Minnesota until 1937 when her parents moved to Wahpeton, ND with her and her little sister Lois.

She completed 2 years of college at the North Dakota State School of Science and 2 years at North Dakota State University where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics Education in 1952. She met her husband John Vogel while at the Newman Center attending NDSU. They were married on July 13, 1953, and adopted four children. They lived in various locations in Minnesota, North Dakota and Arizona before moving to Billings in November of 1975.

In 2016 Joan moved to Mission Ridge and spent ten years enjoying her new home. She played unlimited games of bridge and especially loved the music activities.

She was a most excellent bridge player, croquet player and sports fan, especially football. For good, bad or worse she was a dedicated Minnesota Vikings fan until the end. Mom had a special wit about her especially when you lost to her in cards or least expected it. She was amazingly strong in Catholic faith. She spent many years with her Bible study crew every Wednesday night without fail. She leaves a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, husband John, sister and brother-in-law Lois and Ray Riedman, and husband John’s dearest brother Lambert Vogel.

She is survived by her children Michael (Denise), Rob, Marjory and Barbara. Her grandchildren Emma, Chris (Vanessa), Antonio, Victoria and Joe (Sarah). Five great grandchildren and bunches of nieces and nephews.
