Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather . . . teacher, coach, mentor,
superintendent . . . faithful friend and treasured companion. These all
describe Jerry Cullen Scott. On Wednesday, March 18th, he joined the
loved ones who passed before him.
Born February 20, 1942, he was the first-born child of Siebert and Margaret
Scott. He grew up in Moccasin and Billings, MT. It was while attending
Eastern Montana College that he met the love of his life, Jeannie McPhee.
Both were working at St. Vincent’s hospital and after less than a year, they
were engaged and married. Jerry became a high school science teacher,
taking his first job in Roberts while starting a family. Following a year at
Michigan State University, they moved to Bridger where they lived for over
50 years. Jerry was a science teacher, French teacher, basketball coach,
bus driver, yearbook adviser, class adviser, and so much more at Bridger
High School.
Upon his retirement from teaching, he became the Carbon County
superintendent of schools, a position he held for over 20 years. He was
concurrently the director of the ACE curriculum consortium which supported
rural and home school programming.
Jerry spent the summer months taking on several different jobs, including
working for the U.S. Forest Service and serving as a regional coordinator
for a French Student Exchange program.
A testament of the importance of faith throughout his life, Jerry was a
musician at his local church and was active in the Cursillo movement.
Jerry’s other hobbies included snow skiing (he was a volunteer member of
the National Ski Patrol), hunting, fishing, playing cards, and traveling. He
loved studying history, going to museums, and watching movies.
Jerry and Jeannie were married for 59 years and from this loving union
came six children. Sheri Scott (Steve Rossiter), Jeff Scott (Christy), Julie
Scott, Noelle Dahle (Jimmy), Corey Scott (Spencer Garrett), and Roni Sider
(Kevin). He adored his six grandchildren Cara, Connor, Zachary, Katie,
Jack, and Harrison. He also cherished spending time with his younger
sister Boni.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeannie, his brother
Ronny, and his infant daughter Julie.
A funeral mass and celebration of life will be announced and held at a later
date. Please reach out to the family for details.
