Gloria Mae Fuhrman - Schlieve was born on March 10, 1927, to Agnes and John Fuchs in Richland, Mont. She was one of 11 children. She passed on Friday, April 25, 2025.
A small family memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, July 24, at the Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park in Billings, Mont.
Glo, as her family and friends called her, married Melvin Fuhrman in 1943. They spent their first 23 years together farming and ranching outside Nashua, Mont. She embodied the true spirit of the quintessential farmer's wife... a woman of tireless energy and remarkable skills. Glo was famous for her homemade dumplings, pigs in a blanket, and cinnamon rolls. Not only was she cherished for her delicious baked goods and homemade meals, but she was also a highly skilled seamstress who sewed her daughter Donna's wedding dress. Glo won so many blue ribbons at the county fair, they eventually asked her to be a food and sewing judge, so that someone else could finally win! Mel and Glo always sat shoulder to shoulder in the car; they were the kind of couple who cousins and friends looked up to, a real pair of lovebirds.
Glo enjoyed being around people. She easily transitioned to city life after moving to Glasgow, Mont., in 1964, first owning and operating a flower shop, then the Campbell Lodge, a sewing shop, and eventually the Glasgow Hotel. After selling those businesses, she embraced her role as a grandmother and enjoyed working as a Bank Officer at the Treasure State Bank. She even worked for a time at the Dairy Queen and the Glasgow movie theatre, where she especially enjoyed being around younger generations.
In 1981, she met and married Robert Schlieve, moving to Havre, Mont., and wintering in Yuma, Ariz. Glo could often be found on the golf course, on the dance floor, or just moving with a zest that belied her age.
Glo had an impeccable sense of style and was always polished, put-together, and wearing high-heeled shoes! Ever attentive to her appearance, a checklist was kept at the door of her assisted living room as a reminder to ensure her hair was combed and she looked presentable before leaving!
Resilient and spirited, she was constantly looking for a game of bridge, cribbage, or just about any card or board game, even though she'd insist she wasn't competitive (even if the score said otherwise!).
Gloria is predeceased by her parents, Agnes and John Fuchs; both of her husbands Melvin Fuhrman and Robert Schlieve; her son, Kelly Fuhrman; her daughter-in-law Ardis Fuhrman; and her grandson-in-law Jim Janhunen.
She is survived by her daughter Donna (Jerome) Garsjo; son Dennis; Son Bart (Karen); grandchildren Jill Doug) Fargo, Renee Janhunen, Scott ( Kristin) Garsjo, Julie (Kelly) Hornby, Dacia(Robert) Gonzalez, Brett (Karen) Fuhrman, and Trevor (Lauren) Fuhrman; Brad (Donna) Fuhrman; Cassie Arnold; plus 19 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; sisters Evy Kravik and Alicia Donaldson; and sister in law Barbara bales.
