George Wyse 89, passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2024, from pneumonia complications, with family by his side.
He was born on May 26th, 1938, in Glendale, California, to parents Paulene and George. In his early years ,George and his older brother John made many memories and truly enjoyed the California coast. As a graduate of Stanford University, George earned a master’s degree in business and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. During his time at Stanford, he worked as a photographer for the Stanford Daily, capturing many memorable moments out on the football field. It was there he met Ann Hollander, whom he married on June 30th, 1962, in Wayzata, Minnesota. The couple settled on a farm close to Ann’s family, and later built a cabin on Clearwater Lake.
Soon, George joined the family business, Hollander Publishing, and together with Ann, welcomed three children: Steve, Jim, and Carrie. The family enjoyed many fun winters of cross-country skiing and summers at the cabin with friends and extended family.
In 1977, George moved his family to Billings, Montana, where he introduced them to downhill skiing, mountain camping, and 4H. After divorcing in 1980, he remarried Shirley Fillerup in 1982, and always embracing her three children, Jami, Sheri, and Carrie, as his own. George and Shirley shared over 30 years together until her passing.
Later in life, George endured the loss of his youngest daughter, Carrie, to cancer, and suffered a stroke. Despite these challenges, he remained in Billings, Montana, until his final months in Livingston. He is survived by his brother John (Ruth), his children Steve (Tami), Jim, Jami (Dave), Sheri (Luke), and Carrie, as well as 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
George will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and warm smile. He is also known for lifting up his neighbors and friends, as he always inspired others to live with compassion. Though he will be missed, his legacy of goodness will continue to brighten the world.
