Donna Kay
Donley Prescott
Oct 8, 1948 — Sep 24, 2026
Billings, MT
Donna Kay Capito Donley Prescott, 77 years old, was called Home by her dear Heavenly Father in the very early morning hours of September 24th, 2026 at Monument Hospital in Custer, SD with her devoted daughter by her side. Donna was born Oct 8, 1948 in Spokane, WA to Evelyn Haase & Raymond Capito. Donna was the oldest of 7: Ida Donley of Mpls; Rhonda Atkinson of Poplar, MT; Jane Haase of Ashley, ND; Orrin Hollom of Richey, MT; Mary Solum of Billings, MT and Andy Hollom of Poplar, MT. Donna loved each of her 6 siblings & enjoyed seeing them. Donna felt very blessed to have 4 kids, 10 grandkids & 4 great grandkids whom she loved very much! Donna attended grade school in Sidney, MT while living with her grandma, Mary Haase. In 1961 & 1962 Donna lived in SLC, UT. Donna graduated from Lambert, MT in 1966. Growing up Donna enjoyed spending time with her grandma, friends & cousins: Gary, Ronnie & John Haase as well as Susan & Becki Andrews. Gary & Donna both learned how to play the accordion. Donna attended business college in Great Falls, MT. In 1968 Donna & Don Donley got married in SLC, UT. They made their home in SD where they raised 4 kids: Sonda of Clinton, UT: Tama LaRay of Rapid City, SD; Kit of Hermosa, SD; & John (Valerie) of Ogden, UT. Donna loved each of her 4 children very much & enjoyed spending time with them. Raising her children was her life’s work. Donna got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis after the first 3 kids were born. Donna learned to become resilient & not let MS define her life. This would be one of many challenges as an adult that Donna would have to lean on her faith to overcome. She was quite valiant in her faith but did not ever want church getting out 1 minute late…. 😊 Donna had to go to Fargo, ND for ACTH treatments for MS. Howard & Phyliss Taylor, beloved family friends, helped watch her kids while Donna & Don were in the hospital. Donna cross stitched for her kids, all with her left hand, while getting treatments. Her doctor strongly advised against any more children. Once again Donna leaned on her Savior and was blessed to have her MS go into remission while she was pregnant with her last child, John. Kit had the most exciting delivery; in the cop car while Eddy Nehls was trying to make it to St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. Snuggles & bedtime stories while Don was gone deer hunting, gardening, homemade donuts, journaling, listening to comedian Bill Cosby, going to rummage sales, cutting coupons, church on Sundays, bicycle rides, family swimming night at the city pool, trips to MT & MN for family time, summer vacations to visit family & friends, Chow Mein & rice for lunch on Sundays, popcorn goop while we watched, “Night Rider”; Anita Weston & Bernie Seward over for supper on a lot of Monday nights and a box of Halloween costumes. Yes, the ones with the plastic masks. Ha! Donna loved giving gifts, even small ones or little treats. She may have only had a “mite”, but she gave what she had. Donna was great at getting Lu’s pizzas, rabbits, movie tickets, etc on the Saturday morning radio show “Bid & Buy.” Donna had several dear friends for decades even though their lives took them to different states they were blessed to be able to stay in touch: Patt Germann, Phyllis Jackson, AnnaRae McAllister, Nancy Wiedrich, Kathy Douglas & Bob Chynoweth to name a few. Patt’s words, “Donna was a faithful friend since 1973.” “Donna never forgot birthday & Christmas cards.” “A woman of faith, committed stay at home mom”. Phyliss’s words, “Donna was devoted to her 4 children.” “Donna introduced me to cream peas.” “Even though Donna could not walk well she would still insist on coming to Webster, SD to help me clean my house.” AnnaRae’s words, “Donna loved her children, her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She gave me a report on them each time we talked! She loved going to the temple & it was a way she could serve others.” Yet another challenge when the family home burned down in 1990. Donna & Don went their separate ways shortly after so Donna moved to Aberdeen, SD. She started being a greeter at Walmart, which she truly enjoyed. She also joined the Independent Living Committee & traveled around SD for meetings. In 1992 Donna was even blessed with the amazing experience to ski Terry Peak with Ski for Light. In 2000 Donna took another great leap of faith & decided to move back to MT where she spent a lot of her childhood. She chose the bigger city, Billings. Donna spent many years of her life journaling, traveling to do genealogy work, doing temple work and being a faithful servant writing letters to other women thru the church program. Donna went to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a child with her grandma & never stopped being valiant in her faith & studying the Bible & complimenting that with the Book of Mormon. In between she found some relaxing moments to enjoy, “Highway to Heaven”, Little House on the Prairie” & “Touched by an Angel.” she was able to nurture her curiosity of the world & was able to start taking a yearly vacation to other states with family & friends to do LDS temple work & visit friends & family. Donna got to do a trip of a lifetime to Hawaii with her dear friend, AnnaRae. She even got to go out in the ocean in a special chair, which tipped over when a big wave came in. In 2003 Donna met Lee Prescott & they got married in 2004. Lee unfortunately got called Home to his Heavenly Father a month later. Donna craved connection with people, so it did not take her long to meet all the other residents at Custer Care Nursing Home & learn about them. Donna preferred to be winning $$$$$ playing Bingo, doing word searches, watching “Highway to Heaven”, participating in daily facility activities, eating meals in the cafeteria, or being out & about in the beautiful Black Hills with her family. Donna participated in every morning & every afternoon activity at the facility. Donna is free now & has been welcomed in Heaven by Lee, her father, mother, stepdad, Oral Hollom, beloved grandson, Alex Donley & many, many other loved ones. Donna left this earth rich in blessings of following Jesus Christ to the best of her ability & with $550 in Bingo Bucks. Donna’s final wish is to invite all to find/strengthen your relationship with your Savior who died so you may live eternally.
