David Larsen

David Larsen was born in the middle of the Great Depression on April 25, 1934. He was raised by his homesteading parents, Nels and Ruth Larsen, on a farm outside of Sidney, Montana along the Yellowstone River. He was educated in a two-room schoolhouse and rode his horse to school every day. His character was shaped by the Christian influence held by his family. The family read scripture daily around the dinner table and David was taught Sunday school in the back seat of a car. This deeply held faith guided and sustained him throughout his life.

Although he deeply appreciates the foundational ethic of hard work and honesty that he received on the family farm, David knew farming would not be his way of life. He followed his sister, Evelyn, to Denver and enrolled at Colorado School of Mines, provisionally, in 1952. He had not taken the required higher math and science classes, so he completed those courses at a local community college. He was one of three students who did not have to take the final exams because of his high grades. Later he met the same success in physics and chemistry. However, his average grade in English, writing, and grammar was not as remarkable. He wryly blames this on his English teacher who quit to drive a cab in Sidney. Marrying an English teacher years later vastly improved his proficiency.

Through college, he sold pots and pans to anyone he knew. David entered the computer world when it was developing its enormous influence on society. He was a successful salesman for the Burroughs Company and many of his computer installations brought national recognition and influenced future sales. He then started working for First Interstate Bank, developing the online banking systems.

David married a pretty girl from Sidney named Corrine and had a son, Brian. They were later divorced but remained life-long friends. David met Nancy (Perry) at an informal gathering of friends over a burger and drinks. The next evening was their first date and they never looked back. The two were married on December 23, 1965.

When David picked up a golf club, he applied the same zeal and dedication to golfing as he did in his profession. David and his son, Brian, entered many tournaments together and there are many trophies to prove his accomplishment. David and Nancy were long-time members of the Yellowstone Country Club.

David’s death came too soon on March 25, 2026, at St. Vincent’s Hospital surrounded by family and friends. The family wasn’t ready to give him up; but the memory of his wit and honesty will sustain them in the future. The family is grateful to all those who helped them bear the burdens – all of whom will treasure the memory of David’s humor, love and grace.

David is survived by his wife Nancy Larsen, son Brian Larsen and his wife Mary Jo, grandchildren Amanda and Michael, and four great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in David’s honor, 1 PM Sun, April 12, at Mission Ridge, St. Johns United, 3840 Rimrock Rd, Billings. Leave condolences for the family at www.michelottisawyers.com.
