Charles Joseph Legerski

Charles Joseph Legerski, 86, passed away May 14, 2026, at St. Johns Liggett Cottage in Billings, Montana.
Charles was born on November 12, 1939, to Joseph and Helen (Michalek) Legerski near Sheridan, Wyoming. He graduated from University of Wyoming in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Charles met Shirley Rasmussen and they married June 11, 1965. The couple moved from Sheridan, Wyoming to Dayton, Ohio and then to Casper, Wyoming. They finally settled in Billings, Montana in 1969. There, they had two daughters, Kathy (Greg) Wilson and Melissa (Brad) Schneider. Charles retired from the Bureau of Reclamation as the Regional Supervisor of Power. After his retirement from the government, he worked as a field supervisor for Touch America.
Charles enjoyed working on computers and playing with flight simulators. He was especially proud of his garden and spent many years tending to his garden with his good friend Phil.
Charles was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and much to his surprise was named Grand Knight in 2017-2018. He enjoyed working all the activities associated with the Knights of Columbus. You could always count on him to help with the BBQ's, serving food at St. Vincent de Paul and selling trees at the Christmas tree lot. At any family gathering you could always count on Charles to take pictures and videos with his VHS camcorder. There aren't enough pictures of him because he was always the picture-taker. He enjoyed the annual fishing and camping trips in the Big Horn Mountains with his close family members. He was very proud of his granddaughter and would watch her flute playing on YouTube.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; brothers, Dave, Gene and Greg; sister, Michelle; and sister-in-law, Bonnie (Don) Legerski. He is survived by daughters, Kathy (Greg) Wilson and Melissa (Brad) Schneider. He was a proud grandfather to Meghan Elizabeth Schneider. He is also survived by his brothers Richard (Karen) and Don.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Pius X Church in Billings, MT. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery and then a luncheon to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Pius X Knights of Columbus Council 9976.
