Anna Marie Hopkins, 70, passed away at her home unexpectedly on February 17, 2026. Known as Ann, she was born June 14, 1955, to Adam and Veronica (Vera) Valatkas in Springfield, Ill. She had two brothers, Anthony and Adam, as well as two sisters, Margaret (Marge) Rogers and Jeanette Black. Ann had just retired seven months ago from her job of many years and was so enjoying that she was no longer driving in winter road conditions with Billings work traffic, but especially those dreaded roundabouts.
After high school graduation in 1973, Ann moved to California and began working for a trucking company where she met David Hopkins. They tied the knot in Cody, Wyoming, on February 22, 1977. Putting down roots in Montana, they eventually purchased their home west of Billings a few years later. Dave was the trucker, but Ann joined him for many years behind the wheel of Dave's big rig. She then decided to be a stay-at-home mom for their furry pets, of which they had many wonderful, well-trained dogs over the years. During those years Ann was at home, she worked a variety of jobs, always very organized and a meticulously hard worker with attention to detail in whatever chore or assignment she was given.
Dave and Ann had many memorable trips with their motorhome, as well as fun outings "jeeping" with family and friends.
When Dave's heart gave out on him and they made the trip to California for his heart transplant, Ann was the one, along with other family members and close friends, who showed strength through those trying times. Unfortunately, Dave passed away April 3, 2012, leaving Ann alone after 35 years together. A heartfelt thank you to all who kept in touch with Ann after Dave's passing.
Those surviving Ann are her stepdaughter, Tracy Reyes, and David of Indiana; her brother, Anthony Valatkas, and wife Lynn of South Carolina; as well as their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law Sharon Hopkins of Arizona; also, many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and especially her longtime neighbors who will certainly miss her.
A celebration of Ann's life is yet to be determined. Also, caring for homeless animals or the training of service dogs will make a nice memorial for Ann if you so choose.
