Mabel McCullough

Mabel (Blackford) McCullough, 96 of Billings, passed away on May 26, 2014. She was born on June 10, 1917, in Billings, to John and Martha (Reese, O’Meara) Blackford. She was raised on a ranch at Dean, Mont., and attended a one-room school at Dean through eighth grade.
Due to lack of transportation to Absarokee for high school, she went to live with her aunt and uncle, Mabel and Frank Kirch, in Great Falls. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1936 and continued to live there, where she met her husband, Robert McCullough.
Bob and Mabel were married on June 12, 1939, in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Absarokee. They lived in Great Falls for six years, then moved to Billings, where they lived for 17 years and raised their family of three sons and three daughters. Later, the family moved to Livingston, where they owned and operated Livingston Lanes and the Travertine Bar. Following the death of her husband in 1991, Mabel moved back to Billings to be closer to family. She resided at West Park Village for the last few years of her life, where she formed many friendships.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Warren and Mark; her sister and brother.
Mabel’s survivors are Marietta (Jerry) Rudio of Billings, Duane (Donna) McCullough of Helena, Michelle (Mike) Warren of Livingston, and Karen Burtch of Silver Star, MT; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her family has always been very special to her.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, at Michelotti-Sawyers, with the casket open for visitation prior to the service. Cremation will follow. Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 6, at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Livingston with burial of cremated remains to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Livingston.
