Jean Freeman Sankovich, 92 of Billings, passed away on January 26, 2012 at Valley Healthcare Center. Jean was born in Washoe, Mont., on March 31, 1919, to Jeannie A. and William R. Freeman. She attended Washoe schools through the 8th grade and then graduated from Bearcreek High School. Jean attended one year of college at Montana State University in Missoula, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
On September 10, 1938, Jean married Nickolas K. Sankovich. They began their married life in Wahsoe, but over the years had resided in Bearcreek, Red Lodge, Billings, Cody, Wyo., Long Beach, Calif., Seattle, and St. Paul, Minn. Jean was primarily a home maker but did work at Deaconess Hospital, Coles retail store and the Yellowstone County Library. Following Nick’s retirement from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1980, they had a very active and happy retirement with involvement in organizations, crafts and travel. Nick passed away in 1992.
Jean and Nick had three sons: Robert (Bob) and his Caroline of Evanston, Ill., Dean and his wife Kathy of Chandler, Ariz., and Kenneth, who died in 1977. In addition to her two sons, Jean is survived by seven grandchildren, living in Colorado, Illinois, Montana, Wisconsin, Texas and Wyoming; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, January 30, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
