Elizabeth Brownie Greene, RN, passed away on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012. She was born Aug. 27, 1941 in Billings, MT to Rosella M (Kelley) & Frank R Greene.
Brownie graduated from Billings Senior High School and went on to receive her degree as a Registered Nurse from Montana State University. Her career as an RN began in Sacramento, CA where she worked for 10 years. She moved back to Billings & continued her nursing career working for St. Vincent’s Hospital for 32+ years.
Brownie touched many lives throughout her career as an RN. She worked in the Surgery, Emergency Labor & Delivery, Intensive Care Nursery Depts., and also as an “Ask A Nurse”. She devoted her professional and personal life to helping and nurturing people in crisis.
Brownie was bestowed the honor of Worthy Grand Matron twice, for the Moss Agate Chapter of Eastern Star, here in Billings.
When she joined St. Bernard’s Parish, she became the Parish Nurse and she also started the Knitting Ministry. Prayer shawls, infant sweaters and hats, and wheelchair lap robes were lovingly created and donated to the Society of St. Vincent’s De Paul. She enjoyed participating in any way that would serve her fellow man & God.
Brownie was a lover of music, books, animals, nature, family & the Gospel.
Brownie was predeceased by her parents, & brother Frank R Greene II. She is survived by her sister Claudia (Allen) Potts of Lakeside, MT, niece Michelle Fandrich of Seattle, WA; nephew Frank R. Greene III of Billings, MT; Godsons Kyle and Cole Krenik of Billings, MT; great-nephews Derrick and Nicholas Frandrich, & Joseph Howe, great niece Ashley Fandrich; and a great-great niece Alexa Correll all of Seattle, WA.
Brownie leaves a great many beloved friends and will be missed by an untold number of others whose lives she touched.
The family would like to thank all the caring doctors, nurses & staff at both the Frontier Cancer Center & at St. Vincent’s Hospital for their skill, compassion & honesty. We would also like to thank everyone who kept Brownie & all of us in their thoughts & prayers during this difficult time.
A Vigil will be held Monday 8/20/12, 7:00 pm, at St. Bernard’s Church & the Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday 8/21/12 at 10:00 am, followed by a reception lunch, also at St. Bernard’s Church located at 226 Wicks Lane Billings MT 59105. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery to follow.
Memorials may be made in Brownie’s name to The Billings District Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
