James Bailey, 66, passed away Aug. 1, 2018, after fighting a lung illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born March 29, 1952, in Lewistown. A lifelong Montanan, he grew up in Great Falls and on his family’s farm near Hobson. He graduated from Great Falls Central, Montana State University, and the University of Utah. He was married to his first wife, Joey Kiernan, and began working as a geophysicist in the oil industry, first in Denver and Casper, before returning to Montana for the rest of his career.
He then married the love of his life, Karen, on April 13, 1996. Through their love and strength, and the grace of God, they brought together their two families and built one family. Their children will always be grateful to them for bringing them together. Later, they split time between Montana and Austin, Texas, where Jim enjoyed his retirement by the pool, ate barbecue, saw live music and sports, and was active in Acts Lakeway Church and various charity projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Sr and Helen “Billie” Bailey; and his brother, Bob Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Karen Bailey; his sister, Myrna Irwin; his children, Chris LaGreca (Cassie LaGreca), Kristin Trahan (Kit Trahan), Ben Martin (Kira Pecarina) and Patrick Bailey (Liz Lessig); and his beloved grandchildren Olivia Trahan, Adelaide Trahan and Jude LaGreca. They will all miss him terribly, and will carry the memory of his crass sense of humor and his loving spirit with them always.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1108 N. 24th St. W., in Billings.
