Merie Frank

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, J. Merie (Wittkopp-Diede) Frank passed away peacefully on her 80th birthday, Jan. 31, 2014.
Merie was born and raised in Billings, the daughter of Karl and Christina (Bach) Wittkopp. She graduated from Billings Senior High in 1953. She married Thomas R. Diede on Nov. 1, 1954, and three children were born to their union.
Merie never missed a holiday to send her grandchildren a note. She always expected a return thank you with perfect handwriting. She enjoyed spending the holidays with family and friends, preparing the holiday meals. She always liked to be involved in every part of her children’s lives, helping out with homework, class projects, Girl Scouts and assisting with 4-H projects. She loved talking about and showing her grandchildren birds and animals, and especially enjoyed fishing, camping and bird watching.
Merie liked shopping and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies including collecting antiques, going to garage sales, playing games and putting puzzles together. She was good at crafts, including painting, knitting mittens for every grandchild and making quilts.
A member of the Violet Club, Merie had a green thumb for all plants. She was a devoted member of the Central Christian Church.
Staff at Highgate Senior Living provided loving care for Merie.
Her gentle soul will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Tom) Ripley of Caldwell, Idaho; two sons, Les (Michelle) Diede of Worland, Wyo., and Mark (Irene) Diede of Gillette, Wyo.; sister Carol (Bill) Baxter of Billings; seven grandchildren, Eddie, Lori, David, Lee, Shawn, Lisa and Kevin; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frank, Benney and Karl; husbands Thomas Diede and Herman Frank; and grandson Loren Diede.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Central Christian Church. Following services, burial will be in Mountview Cemetery.
