To the Habel Family, I am sorry for your loss. I remember Uncle Wayne most of all when we would visit the Habel family in Moorhead and go to the lake (many years ago when we were young). My condolences to you all. Roxy (Guenthner) Roberts

Wayne Habel, 81 of Billings, died of natural causes on Thursday, January 1, 2009, at the Billings Health and Rehab Center.   Visitation is from 12–5 p.m. on Sunday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at First Church of the Nazarene with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born July 18, 1927 in Hastings, Nebraska to Lela and Clifford Habel.  While in high school Wayne took an extreme interest and excelled in gymnastics.

Wayne joined the Navy and was a part of the Sea Bees in the Philippines, and that is where he found a love of boxing.  Following his discharge, he returned to Billings he married Irene Farrell. Wayne had various jobs, including Montana Welding and Radiator and Addressograph Multigraph Corporation.  Wayne married Helen Fox of Billings in 1960.  In 1965 Wayne got a promotion with Addressograph Multigraph and transferred to Fargo, North Dakota.  In 1971 he took on a new profession, with his interest being in real estate, he started working for Amerland Real Estate Company.    After 5 years at Amerland he opened his own real estate company called Camelot, and Wayne Habel Investments.  Wayne being a man who loved his ice cream, it only made sense when he opened the Island Park Cone Shop in Fargo.

After several years in the Fargo-Moorhead area, he chose to move back to Billings, Montana, to care for his parents, where he met and married Lucille Murray on August 8, 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille of Billings; brother Clifford (Don) Habel (Marion) of Billings;  three sons, Gordon (Lori) Habel of Fargo, ND, Greg (Bobbi) Habel of Moorhead, MN, Jeff (Rhonda) Habel of Woodbury, MN; two daughters, Janet (Jim) Haney of Florence, MT, Cheryl Habel of Summerfield, NC; two step-daughters, Colleen Coberly of Spain, and Yvonne (Glenn)Loyd of Littleton, CO.; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.  Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Lela and Clifford Habel, his sister Imogene McCall, and his second wife Helen Habel.

Memorials are suggested to First Church of the Nazarene, 805 Alderson, Billings, MT  59101.
