Remembrances

My heart goes out to Jack's wonderful family. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Dear Kasey, Lindsey, and family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and always. I knew your Dad and Grandfather when I was younger as my father played golf with your father and grandfather. My Dad always said,"That Jack Lamb, he's quite a guy!" AND he was right. Thinking of you.

Sheryl Witte Winkle

Hi, Lambs. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Jack and Bette were such wonderful and dear people. Growing up in the same neighborhood with you all is a good memory. (Running out of the street when we saw Jack coming cuz he was on the fly - but then he always got out of his car with a great big hi and some funny comment.) We all loved Jack Lamb. And Betty Lamb with all her kindness. You are all a very dear family. My heart goes out to you all. May all the warm and fun memories of your mom and dad fill your heart today and always. You are all wonderful people. Love, Deane

Judy and family, our thoughts and prayers go out to you at this time. let us know if there is anything we can do. just know we are thinking of you. Lloyd, Kelly, Samantha and Lance Larson

Jack Lamb passed away September 1, 2008 at Powers Cottage with his family by his side.

Our father was born November 21, 1922 in Sheridan, WY to Adolph and Ruby Grandbouche Lamb. He was the second of three boys and his family lived on a ranch in Moorcroft, WY. His dad died when he was only 7, and his mother raised the three boys on her own. The family moved to Sheridan and then to Casper, WY where our father graduated from Natrona County High School in 1941.

Jack enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and graduated from gunnery school in Florida and received the rating of first class armament gunner at Wendover Field. He began overseas duty May 15, 1944 and took part in D-Day. On his 37th mission, his B-17 was shot down over Germany on September 13, 1944. He was a POW in a German prison camp until May 2, 1945 when he was liberated. He received the Purple Heart as well as the Air Medal with three oak clusters in service to his country.

Our father fell in love with our mother, Betty Calkins, while she was singing “That’s My Desire” at a club in Sheridan, WY. They married May 2, 1948 and shared nearly 44 wonderful year’s together and raised four children at their family home on Cook Ave. Our mother died March 26, 1992.

Jack was an optician and worked for Walman Optical Company from 1951 until he retired December 31, 1988, 37 years with the same company. He traveled throughout Montana and Wyoming and became lifelong friends with many of his customers. He had an unbelievable work ethic and he instilled that work ethic in all his children and grandchildren.

Our father had quite the sense of humor and could come up with the best one-liner responses. He never met a stranger and was generous to all. No matter what, when you asked how he was, the answer was always “perfect”. He enjoyed his grandchildren immensely, sponsored up and coming golfers, and gave to any child knocking on his door.

He was a member of the Yellowstone Country Club and spent many hours on the golf course practicing that golf swing. With all that practice, he had three holes-in-one.

Our father is survived by his children Judy Lamb, Kasey (Rex) Buehring, Sue Larson and Jack (Mary) Lamb; grandchildren, Libby Hinsley, Lindsey Zielke, Ryan and Sara Lamb; his brother Marlin (Gloria) Lamb, and his sister-in-law Lowave Lamb. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, and his brother Kenny.

The family extends a special thanks to Pete Anderson of Casper, WY for being a faithful friend to our father for 75 years; to Lowave Lamb for her weekly cards and notes; and to Shirley Price for her continuing friendship and visits to him at Powers Cottage. They made our father a priority in their lives and their support was so invaluable.

Jacks family would also like to thank the staff of Powers Cottage for their compassion, love, and excellent care they gave to our father. He truly loved “his girls” and “the big guy”. We can never thank them enough for all they did for “Papa” and his family. All of you will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Services will be Friday, September 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary with a private family burial with military honors.

Memorials may be sent to The First Tee, World Golf Village, 425 S. Legacy Trail, St. Augustine, FL 32092, Powers Cottage, St. John's Lutheran Home, or the charity of one's choice.

Papa you had a painful struggle and now that struggle is over. We love you, miss you, and we will always feel your presence in our lives.

Sue and Family...We are so sorry. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. God Bless...Jeri and Joe Dalbec
