Lee C. Burt

1923-2008

Remembrances

I had the pleasure of working with Lee in 1980 during a work project at a local refinery.

We were partnered together for several months and enjoyed many a lively conversation. As a direct result of Lee's sharing with me of the reality of Jesus Christ and of spiritual matters, I accepted my Lord and Saviour in 1982. Thank God for Lee Burt! I magnify the spiritual office he walked in. The Apostle Paul wrote, "I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase." Lee watered and planted in my life --- I celebrated my 26th year of salvation this spring; our adult children enjoyed the benefits of being raised in a Christian atmosphere; our grandchildren also. God gave the Frank Farr, Jr. family the increase. Thank you Father, for your servant Lee Burt. He helped change the course of our entire family.

Lee C. Burt was born September 29, 1923 in Thermopolis, WY, to Myron C. and Alta Henderson Burt. The family moved to Worland, WY, where he entered the first grade.  In1936 the family moved to Billings, MT, where he attended Garfield School and graduated from Billings Senior High School. He studied voice in Los Angeles at both  Woodbury College and the Radio Television Arts Theater. He sang professionally in the Los Angeles area where he also taught voice. He entered the Army at that time. From Army bases in the south, he was shipped to the South Pacific Theater where he participated in the invasion of Leyte in the Philippines. After his honorable discharge, he continued his education at MSU Bozeman and Auburn University. He earned a private pilot’s license. In1951 Lee married Frances Fields of Billings and they raised three children. Following his father’s trade, he was a plumber, pipefitter, and welder for many years. Having been raised in a dedicated Christian home, he became an ordained minister and felt the calling to become a traveling evangelist and gospel singer.

Lee left for his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, June 17, 2008. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Naomi Wright and brothers Sylvan and Harold Burt. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances, and their children, Sheri Baker (Doug) of Steamboat Springs, CO, Steve Burt (DeMaris) of Billings, and Colleen Blackmon of Lawrenceville, GA, eight grandsons, Taylor and Chase Baker, Andrew, Daniel and Cameron Burt, Luke, Alec, and Jordan Blackmon, his sister Eunice Shishkowsky, his brother David Burt, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved black lab, Baron.

Lee loved the Lord, his family, hunting, fishing and camping.  In accordance with his wishes, Lee is being laid to rest wearing his favorite wool hunting socks.

Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday, June 24, viewing at 10am, at LifeWay Church, 3100 Rimrock Rd. Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials in Lee’s honor may be made to the Gideon Bible Society, PO Box 20024, Billings, MT 59104.
