Darrell William Spencer passed away on Monday, August 4, 2008 at St Vincent's Hospital as the result of an accident. He was born on August 17, 1934 to Clyde and Minnie (Angliss) Spencer in Glendive, Montana. He was raised and educated in Glendive, graduating from Dawson County High School in 1952.

He attended the University of Montana before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1955 from which he was honorably discharged in 1959. After working at various jobs, he relocated to Portland, Oregon, where he was self-employed.

On June 20,1964, he was united in marriage to Marlene Hayden in Reno, Nevada. After the birth of their son Richard the couple returned to Montana and lived in Billings until his death. He worked as an accountant. The family was complete with the arrival of another son, Kyle.

Darrell was an avid sports fan, especially concerned with the welfare of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. On the morning of his death, he was elated to learn that his beloved Twins were leading their conference. He was also a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vernon, Gordon, and Jack.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; sons, Richard (Heather) and Kyle. His sister, Patricia Spencer, grandchildren Travis, Sydney, Shaun, Rose, and Richie and one great-grandson, Dusty, also survive as do several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church 2420 13th Street West on Saturday, August 23 at 10:00 A.M. with a reception to follow in Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that if you should desire, memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
