Donald John Dundas

1944-2008

Remembrances

For several years, Don acted as the CASA volunteer for the Family Drug Court. He was deeply committed to the welfare of children and had incredible impact on the families in our program as well as his fellow treatment team members. When he decided it was time to resign his post with Drug Court two years ago, he recruited our new CASA volunteer and stayed on board to orient the new person to the team process. We are deeply grateful to Don and will miss him tremendously. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends - Becky Bey, Court Coordinator, Yellowstone Co. Family Drug Txt Court

I went to school (from 1st through the 12th) with Donny and Doug in Miles City. Reading about Donny's life made me realize that he lived his life the same in his professional life as he did in his earlier school years. Please accept my sympathies to all of you with a special remembrance to you, Doug. What a great loss to your family... Ann Woodward Kapernick

On August 12, 2008, while fishing in the remote back country of Montana, Donald John Dundas passed away at the age of 64.

On March 14, 1944, in Miles City, the biggest twins at birth were born to Steve and Mary Dundas. Don and Doug were more than brothers, they were dear friends and constant companions. Both excelled in basketball and track in High School, Rocky Mountain College and then Eastern Montana College. After graduation they both began a journey of service in education.

Don touched the lives of both students and colleagues throughout his career as a high school administrator. Serving as Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at West High, Assistant Principal at Riverside Junior High, Assistant Principal and Principal at Will James Middle School and Assistant Principal at Billings Central Catholic High School. After retiring, he dedicated his time and energy volunteering for the CASA Program, reading, traveling, and fishing with his good buddy, Ron Fisher. Losing his eyesight only slowed him down, never stopping the journey. He simply adapted and continued to grow as a man. He was a hive of activity, a force of nature that was on the go, and yet he always had an open door: always willing to share a joke, a story, a laugh and a hand. There was more he wanted to do. More places to go. There were more lives to touch.

Don's passion extended to his family, service to others, humankind, his dogs and cats, fly fishing, the Denver Broncos, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He especially loved his son, Ian. They were best of friends sharing common interests with a unique language.

Don is preceded in death by his father and mother, Steve and Mary Dundas, his nephew, Robb Dundas and his sister Judi Dundas Krause. He is survived by his wife, Jacquee and son, Ian, twin brother Doug and sister-in-law Shirley, nephew Todd Dundas and wife Loucinda, great nieces McKenzi and McKayla Dundas, Also, brother-in-law Jerry Krause, niece Jennifer Eppand and husband Greg, great niece Kailey Epp, nephew Jeff Krouse, and great nephews Jackson and Will Krause.

Memorial service will be held Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 1 PM in Losekamp Hall on the Rocky Mountain College campus; reception to follow at Prescott Hall.

In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial to the Rocky Mountain College General Scholarship Fund, 1511 Poly Dr. Billings, MT 59102 or Yellowstone CASA, 111 N. 30th Street, Suite 222 Billings, Montana 59101

My heart goes out to the family. Don will be missed so much by my family. He was like a father and friend to my whole family. He was placed in my life at the right time that I needed someone like him. I know God put him there to guide me and stay a positive role model for me and my children. We love him and his family and they will forever hole a special place in our hearts.

Our sympathy to Doug, Shirley, Todd & family for your loss of Don.

John & MaryAnn Hecker

I'm so sorry for your loss. I only first met Don this last January when I took over the Rimrock Road bus route. He rode the bus early every morning to go workout at Rocky. It didn't matter how cold or snowy he was always there. We talked about everything from the weather to our families. He was truly the bright spot in my day. He will be sorely missed. He had a very kind and gentle spirit. I'm sure he touched many lives over the years. My prayers are with the family at this time.

God Bless! Donna Sannon

He was a high school friend. Both he and his brother Doug were someone we looked up too.

Blessings for him and his family.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of Don. I know that the older generation with connections to Ismay were very proud of Steve and Mary Dundas's children.

Doug, Shirley & family,

You are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. We still think of Don every time we hear the Lovin' Spoonful songs and we always will.

Dearest Jacquee, Ian, Shirley and Doug,

So sorry I couldn't make the service, but I want you to know I was thinking of you. In fact, I showed up Saturday--oops. Our family remembers the connections through the years. What a blessing that he was out doing what he loved. Don will be missed. I pray that you find solace and love in his memory. Much love, peace and understanding. Kristeen Keup-Barker, Bridget and Maja too. xoxoxoxoxoxo

I am so sorry for your loss of Don. May many happy memories shared help fill the empty, bring a smile, and keep you close. I did not have the honor of knowing Don but I sure would have like to! My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Kelly Kramer

Jacquee, Ian, Doug, Shirley and Todd - I was just told of Don's death last night (9-6-08) and was saddened by the news. My condolences and sympathy goes out for all of you. Although it has been decades since I last saw Don, memories of him are still vivid and a pleasure to recall. As do Gary and Lynnda Evans, I can not help but recall the Dundas boys whenever John Sabastian and the Lovin' Spoonfull are on the radio. Farewell to an old friend. John Downs, Bozeman.
