Martha Kathryn Stevens

Remembrances

Martha Kathyrn Stevens, age 76. died Monday, February 19,2007, surrounded by the staff who loved and cared for her at St. John's Lutheran Ministries. "Skip" came to live at St John's in 2000 on "Wing 4". She soon became a special part of the St John's family. Skip had lived alone for many years or with her elderly mother so she really enjoyed all the companionship from the staff.

She loved crafts and was famous for her beautiful handmade paper boxes and coiled ribbon pictures. Skip was wonderfully generous with her smile and her caring. She truly loved the joy of giving and often found little gifts for friends and relatives.

Her room was filled with stuffed "kitties" reminding her of her special cat she had to leave when she came to the nursing home. She received a hat one year for a gift and that soon became her trademark. She had hats for every holiday and every outfit. Hats appeared from allover and storage for the hats became a problem. Skip loved to go shopping and garage sales were a special treat.

Skip was close to her brother Sid, unfortunately, he lived in California although he often sent gifts and cards. Skip's mother Kathryn Stevens lived in a nursing facility in California living into her late 90's. In 2002, Skip was able to make the trip to California to visit her mother and brother and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

Skip is preceded in death by her parents, and brother's Sidney Stevens and Paul Stevens. A memorial service for Skip will be held on the Unity Square Wing at St. John's on Thursday, February 22,2007 at 2:30pm.
