Donald E. Anseth

1935 - 2007

Donald E. Anseth was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, August 13th after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Donald was born November 2, 1935 in Noonan, North Dakota the son of Clarence and Gladys Anseth. He grew up and attended schools there until he entered the US Army in 1953.

After the service, he met his soul mate and best friend, Muriel Ronholdt. They married on June 29, 1957.

Don graduated from NDSS and joined the REA in Sidney where he worked as an electrician for 21 years. During that time he earned his Master Electrician's license. In 1980, he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation for the Yellowtail Dam at Ft Smith and the Canyon Ferry Dam in Helena. He transferred to Western Area Power, Miles City, where he served as the Area Supervisor and completed his 25 years as a government employee when he retired in 2003.

Donald loved being a father and grandfather and he was game for anything involving his children and grandchildren - camping, hunting, playing cards, woodworking, and cheering on all their activities. He also enjoyed fishing with them and convinced them that nothing could be caught unless one did "the fish dance" before casting. Donald found joy in everyday moments - from his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, to the precise mowing of his lawn. He spent hours in his workshop and built numerous treasures for his family.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Muriel, and his children: Alan and his wife Sandy Anseth of Billings, Becky Anseth of Billings, Jeanne and Matt West of Townsend and Dawn and Rob Walla of Billings. Donald was the very proud grandfather of Andrew Anseth (Maui, HI), Annie Anseth, Grace West, Ryan Walla and Ashley Walla all of Billings and Leigh and Mitchel West of Townsend. Donald is survived by four siblings: Eleanor (Ben) Hahn of Fargo, ND, Leslie (Sandy) Anseth of Bismarck, ND, Becky (Keith) Wilson of Anaconda, MT, Glen (Sharon) Anseth of Morristown, TN, and sister- in-law Eva Anseth of Choteau. He is proceeded in death by his granddaughter L.D. Walla, his parents Gladys and Clarence Anseth and his big brother, Duane.

Memorial services are being held Friday, August 17th at 2:00 at American Lutheran Church, 5 Lewis Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Billings Clinic Cancer Center in care of Billings Clinic Foundation, PO Box 3566, Billings, MT 59103.

We will miss his gentle spirit, unceasing humor and incomparable wit. Dad, we’re glad you are at peace. Remember... we love you most!

Muriel and family,

We only heard just today of Don's passing (today is August 31, 2007). We are so sorry for your loss. Please know we are thinking of you all. Don was just the greatest person - we all have fond memories of him. You were so kind and thoughtful to all of us during our loss of mom and we so appreciated you coming by the house and giving us such support. We are so glad we got to see Don at that time. He was very courageous and seemed to have such a good attitude. He will suffer no more. We extend our love and deepest sympathy to you at this time. Jo Ann & Greg Kemmis, Mary Jean, Kelley & David Gaskill, and Gene T. Buck
