He enjoyed his many trips to Norway to visit family and to practice his Norwegian. He also was a member of Elks, the Shrine, and the Masons.

Martin especially enjoyed his cabin in Red Lodge and visits to his daughter Sherrie in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Martin’s family was very important in his life. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Remembrances

The large Hinnaland family does celebrate a life well lived. Martin was the last of my grandfather's siblings to pass on. He lived such a long, rich and happy life. When talking with Martin, it was always apparent how very much he loved his wife and his girls. His family was very important to him. Martin was a wonderful man and a caring uncle. He was always interested in what was going on in the lives of his many nieces and nephews. He was very bright and I always enjoyed the opportunity to visit with him at family get togethers. He shared fond memories of his school days in Terry, his years at the University of Montana, his many travels and, of course, always spoke proudly of his beloved daughters. Martin will be missed by many and forgotten by no one who knew him. Heartfelt condolences to Peggy and family. - Barbara Hinnaland

It was with great sadness I received the news that my beloved first cousin Martin Hinnaland has passed away. In spite of the long distance between Billings and Kvernaland /Norway , we have always maintained close relations, as he also did to all his extended family here in Norway.

Martin always surprised us with his excellent knowledge of the Norwegian language and of his family over here.

We have enjoyed several visits to Martin in his nice Billings home, and are very thankful for the kind hospitality shown us by Martin and the other family members. Our last visit was 3 years ago when he celebrated his 90th birthday. He was then still as quick-witted ,kind and with his twinkling eyes as we will always remember him.

We will miss you, Martin.

Heartfelt condolences to Peggy and family.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family as you say your final good-byes to a very special man. Marty tutored for me at Orchard for 17+ years. Marty was so caring and loved the children he worked with every Tuesday and they looked forward to their little piece of wrapped candy each week. He was so supportive to us teachers too, bringing us a bag of Hershey Almond Chocolate to show us how much he appreciated our efforts and hard work. He touched a lot of our hearts at Orchard and gave so much to our students. Your mom and dad were wonderful, loving friends of education. God Bless..... Love, Loretta Doll
