Duart Merle Williams, 91 of Billings, passed away
on October 8, 2007 at Powers Cottage on the St. John’s Campus. His
family was by his side. Duart was born in Joliet, MT on July 7, 1916
to Wilson and Anna Williams. Following the death of his parents when
Duart was only 5 years old, he and his four brothers were raised by
their uncle and aunt Edgar and Elma Gruel. Duart lived and worked on
the family homestead in Boyd until the fall of 1940 when he enlisted
in the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington.
In the fall of 1942 his outfit took part in the
initial invasion of North Africa. The next three years were spent in
Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. The war ended when he
was in Salsburg, Austria in June 1945.
He returned to Billings and worked for Hines Motor
Supply and in 1962 he accepted a position as Purchasing Agent for
Bearings Supply. He retired in 1980.
Duart met and married the love of his life, Toni
Pronovost in May of 1952 in Billings. To this union were three
daughters,six grandkids, and two great grandkids.
He was an active member of Toastmasters
International and belonged to the American Legion and was a past
member of the Elk’s Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four
brothers, Lonnie, Del, Burton and Sid. Duart is survived by his wife
Toni of Billings; daughters, Renee (Ray) Mehrer, Patti (Rick) Main,
and Denise (Scott) DeMars; grandchildren, Jamie Quass (Jerry Heiss),
Michael Quass (Amanda Galster), Angie Quesnell (Chad), Eddie Main
(Miranda), Brandon DeMars and Ryan DeMars; and great-grandchildren,
Landen Quesnell and Eli Main.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on
Friday, October 12, at Ocee Johnson Chapel in Chapel Court at St.
John’s Lutheran Home with Military Honors provided. The casket will
be closed. A private family burial will take place at the Joliet
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made
to St. John’s Lutheran Ministries, 3940 Rimrock Road, Billings, MT
59102.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank
you to all the nurses, sharaffs, aids and staff at the St. John’s
Cottage and Chapel Court for their care and love for Duart, Toni and
their family over the last couple months. |
