October
28, 2007 marks the passing of a good man. Oscar J. Boeshans was born
May 21, 1923 in Beulah, North Dakota to parents Joseph and Marie
Boeshans.
Oscar was a person who loved all kinds of sports
and was a tremendous, gutsy athlete himself who set the record for
the ½ mile and mile race the same day in the state of North Dakota.
That record which was unbroken for 40+ years earned him the honor of
carrying the Olympic torch in Hawaii in the early 1940’s. His most
beloved sports however were those in which he watched his own
children and grandchildren compete. It was at these events we all
remember seeing that special twinkle in his eyes and the familiar
somewhat mischievous little smirk that was only Oscar (Grandpa).
Oscar is survived by his wife Helen who was his
life’s treasure. Two sons - Ozzie, and wife Beth and Nate and wife
Colleen both of Laurel, Montana. Four Daughters – Radelle Groff and
husband Gary of Hoover, Alabama - Donna Brown and husband John of
Troy, Montana - Joy King and husband Mike of Laurel, Montana – Besa
Anderson and husband Dirk of Post Falls, Idaho.
Oscar is also survived by three brothers Bill, Bob
and Emil and three sisters Helen, Irma and Ruth, all six of whom
reside in North Dakota. Seventeen Grandchildren – Amy, Christy,
Sabrina, Audra, David, Anna, Chris, Taunia, Nicole, Scott, Dillon,
Eric, Joe, Evan, Tara, Kale, and Logan. He has Seven Great
Grandchildren and soon to be nine.
Although, Oscar believed all children needed to be
raised tough, responsible, and independent; if he failed at times to
instill these characteristics it was because under what at times
appeared to be a very thick skin was a heart too soft to make it
happen. |
