Jack A. Roberts

1917-2007

Remembrances

Surrounded by love and family, Jack A. Roberts slipped away peacefully at Billings Clinic, Friday, May 11, 2007.

Jack was born on March 24, 1917, in Missoula, MT, to Seacil A and Jesse (Steele) Roberts. As a young man, he served as a USN Seabee in the South Pacific during World War II – clearing jungles, building airfields and dodging enemy fire. Following his honorable discharge, Jack returned to Montana. For several years he was an independent truck driver. He then became a foreman for the Yellowstone County Shops, operating heavy equipment – predominantly motor graders – building and maintaining county roads. He retired in 1979 after 30 years with Yellowstone County.

On November, 8, 1969, Jack married the love of his life and best friend, Ruth (Frickel) Walter. They were inseparable for more than 40 years, camping, bowling, playing cards, and spending many hours visiting with friends and family. An avid bowler, Jack was pleased to be able to participate in the National Bowling Tournament when it was held in Billings a few years ago.

Jack was a member of the American Legion and Jubilee Seniors Bowling League.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Seacil Roberts, sisters, Joy Roberts and Helen Benner, son, Duane Walter and son-in-law, Roy Deines.

Surviving to remember and honor Jack are his wife, Ruth; daughters Beverly (Jerry) Collins, Janie (Charlie) Hendricks, Diana Deines; and son, Scott (Janice) Roberts; grandchildren Lani Roberts, Melissa Collins, David (Gloria) Hendricks, Becky (Roger) Nay, Erin (Peter) Reilly, Jill Deines, Keith (Natalie) Roberts, Chris (Trish) Roberts, Todd Roberts and a very special nephew, Jerry (Dorothy) Benner from Colorado. He is also survived by eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank Jack’s doctors, the tireless staff of the dialysis department at Billings Clinic and the loving staff on fourth floor at Billings Clinic.

The casket is open at Michelotti-Sawyers for visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 17, at Pilgrim Congregational Church, with Pastor Dave Dickbernd officiating.

Memorials may be made to Pilgrim Congregational Church, 409 S. 36th St., Billings, MT 59101, or charity of choice.
