| Remembrances | Ruth
Jean Carpenter passed away on March 13, 2007, at the age of 76, after a
short battle with cancer. She was born on March 22, 1930, in Williamson,
West Virginia, the daughter of M.V. Fairchild and Jennette Riddle. She was
raised by her mother Jennette and step-father Clayton Mulkey.
Ruth worked for American Greeting Cards for 28 years. She made many wonderful friends and really enjoyed her job. Ruth started in Sorority in Dickinson, North Dakota in 1963. She was the last Beta Sigma Phi City Council Valentine Queen. She served Order Of Rose in 1978, Laurette Beta 1981, Silver Circle 1988 and Beta 1994. Ruth married Keith Marcellis Carpenter on August 25, 1951 in Portsmith, Virginia. Ruth loved living in Hawaii when Keith and she were stationed there for about five years. Ruth enjoyed dancing, camping, and going out to breakfast and dinner with her family. Even though Ruth was a native Montanan for more years than Virginian, our favorite southern phrases she used were "Y,all", "Honey Bun", and "my word"! Ruth’s pride and joy was her only son and her three grandsons. She loved to go tho their baseball, soccer, and football games. She was especially proud of Mackenzie this last years with 7 out of 8 wins this football season. Ruth loved all sports and Milo especially enjoyed betting against her during the Super Bowls. She enjoyed playing games and cards with her grandsons and Noah particularly liked to "Whoop" her in Bingo for cash! Grandma C will be greatly missed! Survivors include her son David (Becky) and three grandsons; Mackenzie, Noah and Milo of Laurel, sister-in-law, Delone Carpenter of Bloomington, MN, and brother Ronald (Gloria) Mulkey of Virginia Beach, Virginia along with numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Keith, parents M.V. and Jennette Fairchild and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Dwight and Francis Carpenter. Memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice or Help For Homeless Pets. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 2pm Thursday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary followed by interment at Mountview Cemetery.
