| Remembrances
To the family, may you find comfort and peace as you cope. Losing some you love to death is never easy but know that you are not alone. Take comfort from God and His promises John5:28,29. He will help you through. 1Corinthians1:3,4 "God of all comfort". My heart goes out to you. Sincerely with sympathy, Candace <><><><> |
Bob passed away on April 25, 2007, at his home, at peace and surrounded by his family after a year-long battle with cancer. He had been challenged by several health crises in his life which he overcame with grace and courage and he accepted this illness in the same way. Bob was born August 9, 1923, the youngest of five children born to Fred R. and Pauline P. Scott in Glenrock, Wyoming. His parents homesteaded near Glenrock where they were later designated as a Wyoming Pioneer Family. The family moved to Centerville, South Dakota during his early school years, later returning to Glenrock where he attended Glenrock High School, excelling in athletics. He received a scholarship in football, basketball and baseball from the University of Colorado in 1941. His undergraduate studies were interrupted by WWII in 1943 when he entered the Navy Air Corp V5 program. While attending pre-flight school at St. Mary’s College in California, he won the regiment heavyweight boxing championship and went on to the flight training program in Prescott, AZ. At that time, the V5 program was canceled and he enrolled in officers training, receiving his commission from the United Stated Naval Reserve Midshipmen’s School at Cornell University in August of 1945. He was assigned to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where he worked on the Crossroads Project until he was released from active duty in June of 1946 and returned to the University of Colorado that fall, graduating in 1949. His first experience in the oil business was as a roughneck on a rig in Snyder, TX. From there he returned to Wyoming and worked for Shell Oil Co. in the Scouting Department. It was there that he met and married Lucille McGee. They were married on September 2, 1951 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Casper, WY. They moved to Billings, MT in 1952 and were blessed with three children, Robert Jr., Janet, and Bill. His family and lifelong career in the oil business were his passions as well as a love for golf, fishing, making lefse, vegetable gardening, good food, and dancing to Big Band music. He was an active member of the Yellowstone Country Club, past-president on the Billings Petroleum Club, a 50-year member of First Congregational Church, served on the Montana-Wyoming Oil Company for 30 years and was a regular for lunch at the round table at George Henry’s Restaurant. His personal integrity, great smile, warmth and sense of humor will be long-remembered by all who knew him. Bob is survived by his wife Luci of Billings; son Bob of Seattle, WA; daughter Janet (Steve) Miller and granddaughter Jessie Miller of Big Horn, WY; and son Bill (Tara) and grandchildren Dan, Collin and Emily of Missoula, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jack and Fred and their twin sisters Freda and Marguerite. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Big Sky Hospice for their loving care of Bob during his illness. Also to Antique Rose Care for their extra special care and support. Cremation has taken place and A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 3:00 P.M., on Saturday, April 28, at the First Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107-5033, or the charity of your choice.
