Remembrances

Mrs. Helen Wallis, 97 of Billings, passed away Saturday, October 14th, 2006 in her home, under the care of her family and Hospice. Helen was born in Washoe, Montana on October 5, 1909 to Joe and Antonia Komposh, formerly of Austria. She moved with her family to a farm seven miles west of Red Lodge when she was five years old. Helen graduated from Carbon County High School in 1927.

She married Leonard J. Wallis on December 11, 1928. They resided in Red Lodge through the depression years. In spring of 1941 the Wallis family moved to Billings, where she was employed at Bonton Bakery (later Eddy’s Bakery). She retired after 37 years, as office manager. Helen then took a part-time job at Hart Drug for a few years. Helen was a 50 year member of ABWA, where she was awarded woman of the year. She also was a member and former president of AARP, and volunteered at St. Vincent Hospital for many years.

Helen loved to play bridge, pinochle, and many other card games. She loved gardening, canning fruits and vegetables. She loved cooking big meals for her family and friends, she also loved baking special treats for all her grandchildren.

Helen was a loving, thoughtful, and giving lady, who gave of herself unselfishly always.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Antonia Komposh; her sisters, Nellie and Mabel; her brother Joe; and her son Harold Wallis.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Langhausen of Billings and Delores McQuiston of Escondido, California; her sister Elizabeth Komposh; sister-in-law, Barbara Komposh; daughter-in-law Marlene Wallis; 5 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great grandchildren.

We will miss you mom (and grandma), and we all love you very much, and know you are finally at peace.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 18, at First United Methodist Church in the Canton Chapel. Family inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
