Otto Schaffer

Remembrances

Otto Schaffer, 80, of Billings Montana died Nov. 23, 2006. He was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Greeley, Colorado, son of David and Mary Weinmeister Schaffer, Sr. He lived in the Big Horn Valley near Hardin with his family of two sisters and two brothers. He worked in the bean, beet, clover, and grain fields and at the Holly Sugar plant. He enlisted in the Navy in Nov. 1948, serving on the USS Chandler, a destroyer, during the Korean War. After his discharge, he worked at Westwood’s Appliance for nearly 2 decades, a proud, but not lonely, Maytag Repairman.

Otto is survived by his very special and dear friend, Doreen Watkins; his two children, Randy (Rosie) Schaffer and Valerie (Steve) Rockwell; two grandchildren, Chandie "Sea Biscuit" and Jennifer "Whirlaway" Kent; brother Robert Schafer; former wife, Alice Kuhar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, David Schafer, Eunice Dore and Sue Keller.

Otto enjoyed travel, visiting Russia, Scandinavia, Israel and many US States over the past two decades. He greatly enjoyed food, particularly dining out with friends and family. He was a proud member of the American Legion for the past 45 years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Interment with military honors will follow in the Hardin Fairview Cemetery.

The family has requested donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
