Remembrances

I will always remember Aunt Maida's quiet manner and friendly smile. I admired the strength and courage she exhibited throughout her life. She will be missed.

Maida Estelle Brewer Guenther died in Billings , Montana on August 26, 2006. She was born in Aztec New Mexico, on February 11, 1914. She was the fifth of ten children born to Truman Purdy and Maud Thomas Brewer.
 

Maida's early years were spent in Aztec New Mexico surrounded by grandparents and extended family. In her teens the family moved to Fort Collins so that all the children could continue their education. She taught school and during the Second World War worked in a munitions plant and later was a librarian in St Louis and Missoula . She met and married her husband Ira Arthur Guenther in Missoula . Maida had been a hard working Sears employee for many years. After the death of her husband, Art, she became the sole provider for three young boys. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and was held in the highest esteem by her friends and family.
 

Maida had lived in Billings for the last few years to be nearer to family, but she never forgot Missoula , the place she loved, and will be laid to rest there at 10:00am Friday, Sept 1 with graveside services at the City of Missoula Cemetery.

Maida is survived by three sons, Alan (Annie) of Boston Mass. , Richard (Linda) of Bellevue Wash. , and Robert (Judy) of Billings Mt. She leaves 10 grandchildren, Amy, Ben, Jon, Matt, Jessica, Anna and Katherine Guenther; Sarah (Troy) Duven; Becca (Nathan) Longfellow; Brianna (Gabriel) Schofield; and 5 great-grandchildren. Maida was preceded in death by her husband in 1961 and all 9 siblings.
