Iva Marie (Morton) Davis
Iva Marie (Morton) Davis, 90 of Billings, passed away early October 8th. She was born February 17, 1921 to George and Fern Morton in Gillette, Wyo. When she was five years old the family moved to Oriva, Wyo. She graduated as the Valedictorian from Lodge Grass High School with 19 classmates. Following graduation from Normal School (now MSU-Billings) she started a teaching position in Decker for $75 per month. Over the years, she taught in Lodge Grass, Columbus, and Huntley, MT.
Marie married Clarence Edward Barrett in 1943, and to this union Edna was born. Clarence died the following winter. Marie later married William Junior. They were only married a few months when he died of a heart attack. She met and later married Raymond Davis in 1953. This union was blessed with children, Leila (Gary Knox), Gary (Teri), Paul, Elaine, and Karen (Shawn Beadnell). Edna (Vernon Lunderman) was adopted by Raymond shortly after the marriage.
In addition to her children, Marie is survived by siblings George Morton of Temple Hills, MD, Leo (Genelle) Morton of Wenatchee, WA, Charlotte Morton and Lorraine Morton, both residents of St. John’s in Billings; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Marie and Ray lived on the family ranch in Shepherd and raised their family there. In 1981 they moved to Billings Heights and lived there until failing heath forced them to move. Raymond died in 2005. Marie was a resident at The Vista for the past 3 years.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Eric Saberhagen, his nurse Marsha, and all the staff at The Vista who took wonderful care of our mom.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 13, at St. Bernard’s Parish with Rite of Committal to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The casket will be open for visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday at Michelotti-Sawyers, and Thursday prior to mass at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church or the charity of one’s choice.
Remembrances
To Marie's family,
Your Mom was the nicest, most kind and the sweetest woman! It was an honor
to get to know her and to take care of her while she was at The Vista. She
captured the hearts of both the staff and the other residents. I know her
table mates will miss her terribly! She always had a smile on her face and
even as her health was failing, she never complained. I will miss her, but
know she has made a lasting impression on all of us. May Jesus wrap His
comforting arms around you and give you peace during this difficult time of
loss.
