Lillian Y. Walters

Lillian Y. Walters, age 89, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2011 at Fischer Cottage, St. John's Lutheran Ministries in Billings, MT.

Lillian was born on August 28, 1921 to Charles Alexander and Lillian Poe Young in Pecos, Texas. She grew up there and graduated from Pecos High School. On July 10, 1938 Lillian married William D. Walters Sr. Thereafter, Bill attended Texas A & M University and Lillian worked various jobs to make ends meet. After Bill's college education the couple moved to Houston, Texas where Bill was employed by Emsco Derrick and Equipment Co.

In 1951, with the discovery of oil in the Williston Basin Bill and Lillian moved their family of five, two daughters and a baby son, to Williston North Dakota to begin their days as independent oil operators and producers. In 1958 Bill and Lillian founded Imperial Oil of North Dakota, Inc., a company that has successfully engaged in exploration, production and development in the Williston Basin from that time up to the present date. Along with raising a family, Lillian spent much time contributing her efforts to the success of Imperial Oil. Lillian was dedicated to her family.

Lillian's husband, Bill, predeceased her on November 16, 1996. Lillian lived in Williston, North Dakota from 1951 until December 2009 when she moved to Fischer Cottage, St. John's Ministries Billings, Montana. During her time at Fischer Cottage Lillian benefited from the wonderful care of the staff of St. John's Lutheran Ministries Billings, MT and especially Fischer Cottage. The family expresses their appreciation for the care and attention Lillian received during that time.

Lillian is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Lillian Kaiser Hardcastle and A. Hardcastle Jr. of Austin, Tx, Carrie Walters Smith and R.T. Smith of Houston, Tx, and a son and his wife, William Walters Jr. and Bonnie K. Walters of Billings, Mt. Lillian has 7 grandchildren and two step grandchildren, Shannon Kaiser Street, Susie Kaiser Posey, Tarleton Smith, Steven Smith, John Walters, Philip Walters, Alexander Walters, Stacey Bykonen and Chad Bykonen. Lillian has 8 great grandchildren, Kaitlin and Gracee Street, Camden and Kinley Walters, Lillian and Charlotte Smith, Avery and Allie Smith. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and an infant daughter who died in childbirth in the 1950's.

Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Ministries, 3940 Rimrock Road Billings, MT 59102, or St. John's Foundation, 2429 Mission Way, Billings, MT 59102, or the charity of your choice. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday June 2 at Kathy Lillis Chapel on the grounds of St. John's Ministries, 3940 Rimrock Road, at the corner Poly Drive and Mission Way, Billings.
