Martha M. Spieler
"Marty"
Martha M. “Marty” Spieler, 86 of Billings, passed away on May 6, 2011 at Valley Healthcare, where she had been in hospice care for the last week. Marty was born on May 31, 1924, in Fredonia, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Lydia (Eslinger) Haag.
Marty married Les Spieler on November 8, 1952. They made their home in Billings where Les worked in construction, operating heavy equipment. Marty pursued a career in heath care and worked as an LPN at St. Vincent Hospital for over 30 years. Les and Marty has four children, Jeffery, Pamela, Richard, and Shauna.
Having an artistic nature, Marty enjoyed painting and working with her hands as she knitted and crocheted. She and Les maintained beautiful gardens of flowers and vegetables. She was also talented as a musician, playing the accordion, guitar and piano. Her grandchildren were very special to her and she enjoyed them immensely. She was very proud of all her grandchildren!
Martha is survived by her children, Jeff (Cheryl) Spieler of Colstrip; Pam (Rock) Schaffer of Phoenix, AZ; and Shauna Spieler of Billings; step-daughter Darlene Spieler of Billings; brother Al (Ruth) Haag; sisters Ruthie Haag and Cathy McGaw; grandchildren, Kelsey Spieler, Jennifer Ostrum, Ashley, Alisha, and Jacob Schaffer; and Logan Nagel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Les; son Richard; and several siblings.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Valley Healthcare and Rocky Mountain Hospice for their loving care and support during Marty’s recent illness, also to Big Sky Senior Services for their dedicated assistance and home health care over the past years.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 10, at Mountview Cemetery. The casket will be closed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Sky Senior Services, 5 N. 35th St, Billings, MT 59101.

Shauna, Jeff & Family,
I was so sorry to hear about your mother. You are in my thoughts and
prayers.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

She was a special Aunt who welcomed nieces and
nephews into her home. Even if they had a long beard, long hair, and was
looking pretty rough on the outside. She was an Aunt, like her other
sisters, worked hard in all that she committed to. I had the opportunity
to spend several summers in her Billings home while I was in college,
traveling around the West coast. Once she knew who was at the door,
by-passing all of her suspiciousness of the hairy character pounding at
the door in the middle of the morning, the door flung open, open arms,
and with a huge smile encountered the grizzly looking nephew. She was
always warm hearted, a wonderful storyteller, and a humorous person who
laugh at everything. What a wonderful aunt who in the midst of life
always took time out to care, to love, and be there to help in whatever
capacity. I have fond memories of all of her children, playing on the
swing set, behaving like all children do. She is now in her own mansion,
where she doesn’t have to lift a broom, or fix her fabulous German
meals. And I bet she will be talking, like she use to do, about
everything and then, about nothing, yet, laughing while she tells the
story.
As we have celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday,
we can also celebrate the new life and the Resurrected life of Martha
Spieler.
Peace and Love,
